Antonio Sanchez, former mayor of Calauan, Laguna, was caught with one kilo of shabu inside his cell at the Maximum Security Compound of the New Bilibid Prison, (NBP) where he is serving seven life terms for the rape-murder of Eileen Sarmenta and the murder of Allan Gomez, both students of the University of the Philippines Los Banos (UPLB) in 1993, reports Pilipino Star Ngayon.
NBP Director General Oscar Calderon told Pilipino Star Ngayon that Sanchez is suspected of selling shabu (methamphetamine hydrochloride) worth a total of P1.5 million to his fellow prisoners. The drugs were found concealed inside a statue of the Virgin Mary during one of NBP's random checkups. Sanchez has been known to collect icons of the Virgin Mary.
In a report by the Bureau of Corrections, Sanchez was found positive for drug use. Usually seen staring off into nothingness, he allegedly doesn't bathe and doesn't sleep at night, according to his fellow prisoners. It has been years since Sanchez had a visitor, the report said.

yes, death penalty still exists. pero we have a Republic Act which states that it shall NOT be imposed but instead be commuted to reclusion perpetua. in effect, suspended lang ang implementation ng death sentence dito.

I was a college freshman at UPLB when they found the bodies of Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez and transported them to the UP Police Station in a pushcart and several students saw the bloody bodies. Eileen was the cousin of my friend and she was raped several times by Mayor Sanchez and his men before being murdered along with Allan.
It's good to know he's still in jail despite reports from previous years that he has a solo air-conditioned cell and his own burger stand inside bilibid. Maybe the drug-dealing can afford him that lifestyle. What has he got to lose with 7 life terms? I am sure drugs are a popular refuge there.
I don't remember - was this incident before the death penalty? Does the death penalty still exist in the Philippines? -

I agree with chimchim, dapat mas mabigat ang parusa sa ganitong klaseng crime. So nakalusot pa yung drug-dealings nya inside the prison, buti naman at nahuli! The nerve! Nakakagigil sa galit!!!
