Saranggani Representative and boxing champion Manny Pacquiao delivered his first privilege speech in Congress, reports GMANews.tv. In his speech, the pound-for-pound boxer turned politician said, "One question that occurs to me again and again is: Can I be a good congressman? And my resounding answer is, with my heart in the right place, my words, ethic, my discipline, and my commitment to learn from wiser and more experienced people such as all of you here today, yes, I can be a good Congressman."
According to GMANews.tv, Pacquiao would like to address three main problems in his district--livelihood, health, and education. He added, "I want us all to work together and to work very hard to win the first Filipino gold medal in the Olympics specially this coming 2012," reports GMANews.tv.
Inquirer.net reports, "Pacquiao said he would work to give better lives to the close to 500,000 people of Saranggani, 40 percent of whom has no adequate housing and proper nutrition. 'Those 40 percent are not just statistics. It's their daily experience of life,' he said."
