College student Danica Flores Magpantay, 17, was declared 2010 Ford Models Supermodel of the World Philippines during the finals night on October 31 at SM Mall of Asia, Pasay City. The event culminated the 2010 Philippine Fashion Week Spring-Summer fashion show series.
Danica is a BS Fine Arts student majoring in Visual Communication at the University of the Philippines Diliman (UPD). Her sister Danielle, 19, also made it to the top eight. The two are daughters of 1990 Ford Models Supermodel of the World-Philippines Lala Flores, who is now a renowned makeup artist.
Lala told SPOT.ph, "Just three months ago they told me that they (Danica and Danielle) both wanted to try modeling also. I was very surprised because they never have expressed desire to do it before....So they are really babies in the business. When they joined I advised them to just enjoy the experience and not be attached to win the title. If it is their destiny, it would happen."
Lala said she got emotional when Danica won: "I could not breathe and I started crying kasi nga ’di pa naman sila talaga pro na model, but I was happy and, at the same time, unbelieving. It was like a dream, but it was a well-deserved win. She fought with fierceness."
According to Lala, considering Danica’s little exposure, she needs to practice until she perfects her modeling skills.
Danica will be competing for the Ford Models Supermodel of the World title in January 2011. Other winners are Sha Whitaker (first runner-up) and Kim Fernandez (second runner-up). Earlier this year, Filipina Chat Almarvez placed first runner-up in the 2009 International Ford Models’ Supermodel of the World competition held in Brazil, reports the Philippine Star.
