Lady Gaga topples Oprah from No.1 spot in Forbes' Celebrity 100 list ranking earnings and media visibility
Published on: May 20, 2011 - 8:52am

( From relative unknown Stefani Germanotta to Forbes Celebrity number one, Lady Gaga left longstanding top placer Oprah Winfrey settling for second place on Forbes' annual "The Celebrity 100" 2011 list, according to a report by Reuters.

The Celebrity 100 is a list of top film and television actors, TV personalities models, athletes, authors, musicians and comedians ranking their entertainment-related earnings and media visibility.

It's only the third time in seven years that Oprah left the top spot on the list. Her reduced pay at SiriusXM radio decreased her income by about 25 million but she still gets hefty amounts from her show and from stars she discovered like Rachel Ray, Dr. Oz and Dr. Phil.

Gaga, whose estimated earnings of $90 million compare dimly to the talk show queen and media mogul's $290 million, but rose to the plum spot on the list mainly due to her 32 million Facebok fans and 10 million Twitter followers.

“She can use Twitter and Facebook to work ‘the little monsters’ into a frenzy that leads to record sales and media attention,” said Forbes editor Dorothy Pomerantz. “She’s the best example of how celebrities will need to manage their careers in the coming years.”

Other celebs in the list include Justin Bieber, Leonardo DiCaprio, Elton John and Tiger Woods.

Lady Gaga made $90 million in 2010 and beat Oprahrnas the new queen of social media with 32 million facebook fans and 10 million twitter fans. Oprahs income for 2010 was down to $290 million from $315 in 2009 and lost the social media title to Gaga. Bieber came in 3rd making $53 million in 2010. Gaga sold 1 million download for Born this Way in 5 days. rnrnIf Filipinos would only support Charice 100% with CD sales and downloads, she could easily have made $20 - $50 million in 2010. The quality of her Pyramid album which contained 10 highly reviewed songs by music industry people and radio stations in the US was far more superior to Gaga's or Bieber's album of which only contained 3 good songs each and the rest were so called " dagdag lang to complete their albums. " It is so sad to see a tremendous talent not reach her potential to earn what less talented artist are making. rnrnNot too many people know that everytime they openrnan artists website and views the page for at least 1 minute, that visit generates money for the artist. rnThat is the power of social media.rn rn

Youth are the purchasing power of twitter and facebook. Lady Gaga is famous because she's the 'now' for today's genre. Oprah is different, because her fans are more loyal and personal.
