Pacman slams sports analyst Ronnie Nathanielsz: "We know naman he is not a real Filipino, adopted lang siya"

Published: Nov 25, 2011 - 1:23pm

ABS-CBNNews.com reports that Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao has reacted to veteran sports analyst Ronnie Nathanielsz for criticizing his performance against rival Juan Manuel Marquez in the November 12 fight in Las Vegas.

ABS-CBNNews.com pointed out: "Nathanielsz had said in various interviews that he believed Marquez won the trilogy bout, and had called on Pacquiao to 'clean house.'" The sports analyst also said Pacquiao "has too many distractions outside the ring that prevented him from focusing on his boxing career."

In a press conference after his return to General Santos City, Pacquiao fired back when the press asked him about his less-than-stellar performance. He quipped: "'Yung isyu na 'yan ay nagsimula kay Ronnie Nathanielsz. (That issue started with Ronnie Nathanielsz.) We know naman Ronnie Nathanielsz is not a real Filipino, adopted lang siya (We know Ronnie Nathanielsz is not a real Filipino, he's just adopted."

Pacquiao was referring to the fact that Nathanielsz was born in Sri Lanka and is a naturalized Filipino. Pacquiao added, "Wala siyang dugong Pilipino, hindi natin masisisi siya kung anong paniniwala niya (He has no Filipino blood, so we can't blame him for thinking that way)."

But of course that's to be expected, ginger. Why'd you think all those pinoys who migrated to the states left pilipinas for good in the first place? To see universal studios? Precisely because they've had it with this country and couldn't stand it any longer that they looked for opportunity elsewhere where the grass seem always greener until enron, madoff, and the mortgage crisis smacked them where it hurts most. Many of them will never have anything good to say about this country because of all the raw deals, perceived or otherwise, that they had to put up here. That is, until this country hits a vast reserve of blackgold somewhere in its seas and they come back scampering for home, being the opportunists that many of them are. And if i'm an investor, i wouldn't invest here because of all the bureaucratic mazes, not to mention the grease system that latch as barnacles to the corrupt ship of state. I had to apply for occupancy permit at city hall in the past, they made me go through 25 procedures to get that piece of paper while in snow white canada it's never more than 3 procedures, for crying out loud. It's difficult doing, transacting business in pilipinas, that is, unless you're willing to lay it on thick for the bloodsucking vampires in the forest that is the philippine bureaucracy

Nang pumutok ang People Power '86, halos magkandahulog si ronnie sa pag-akyat sa bakod ng dating ptv 4 (compound ng channel2) para makatakas. may naka-file na kasong pagmamaltrato sa asawa si ronnie. alam ninyo mga kababayan at mga kasama na may CMS, unang-una hindi ko gusto ang comment ni pacman kay ronnie kasi hindi ugaling pinoy ang ginawa niya. pero wala ng argument dito kasi lahat tayo iisa ang pananaw.rnrnang hindi ko lang maintindihan, ang daming mga tao dito sa spot na kapag positive ang news sa pinas, galit na galit sila, pero kapag bad news sa pinas, tuwang-tuwa naman sila. ang iba dito, kahit hindi alam ang topic, nagsasabi againts anything about the philippines. example, sasabihin nila talo si pacquiao as if their statement is conclusive but the truth of the matter, they do not know anything about boxing more than a spectator. if they speak out their opinions, maganda iyan, magkapanig o magkasalungat.rnrnsa mga may CMS, totoo naman na may ilan sa atin dito na may sakit na CMS. alam ba ninyo ang mga taong may CMS ay damaging sa atin. example, alam ba ninyo na sa US, 40% of the 200,000 fil-ams interviewed prefer to say bad things about the country and refuses to say good things about the philippines? this study is used by potential investorts in the BPO arena. in fact, i was there when a korean-american was considering to invest the money of its investors in the philippines para magtayo ng call center. secretary ako ng pinoy boss ko na nagco-convince sa korean na sa pinas ilagay ang call center niya. itong korean used the 40% figure as an excuse to its investors to place the investment elsewhere. he reasoned, why invest in the philippiens when you already lost 40% of the market. ang appeal ko lang sa mga may sakit na CMS, if they find it painful to say good things about the country, please stop going out of your way to bad mouth our country. is that too much to ask for?rnrnpasensiya na kung nasaktan ko ang mga may sakit na CMS.....i only wish to make a point. in a way, i feel responsible after finding out about the research i mentioned above.

Here we go again with the foot stepping incidents of that fight. Ask any boxing expert and he'll say that is usually the case when a lefty like manny p dukes it out with a righty like marquez. Both fighters lead foot will be on collision course instead of parallel to each other. So stepping on each others foot cannot be helped, avoided sa ganong stances ng boxers. Besides, there were also instances in the match that it was the other way around, the pac doing the stepping on marquez's left foot. It can be incidental, it could also be sinasadya. Being the slower fighter, it was part of marquez's strategy to step occasionally on our pug's foot so that pacquiao won't have the needed fulcrum and balance to let go of his wicked left haymaker of a punch. If marquez didn't resort to that tactic it would have been lights out for him even before the 8th round. Manny knows it, roach knows it, buboy fernandez knows it, ariza knows it. Why? Because they weren't complaining during the bout, for crying out loud!

Manny's statement stems from an obviously biased statement from supposed sports analysts and naysayers who just can't wait to see Manny fall. Ronnie Nathanielsz maybe Sri Lankan but his crab mentality is definitely Filipino. Bakit ba inip na inip ang iba na makitang bumagsak ang isang tao na nagsumikap ng mula sa hirap?? rnThe video of Marquez's cheating by stepping on Manny's foot is all over the internet. Go to You Tube. So kahit dinadaya na si Manny, tama pa rin ba si Ronnie Nathanielsz??
  • marichu 6 months ago Report Abuse
Pacquiao's comment is truly lame. It's actually racist. We should realize that Ronnie Nathanielz, even if he's of Sri Lankan descent, has lived most his life in the Philippines and has been sportscasting even before most of you were born. he's been covering Philippines matches all over the world and is a veteran sports analyst. You can't stop him from making his analysis much less you can't stop Pacquiao from boxing. Pacquiao should accept criticisms from all fronts no matter what race they're from. He should even be thankful of the observations of Mr. Nathanielz kasi he's a respected analyst. Why is he still in the business kung hind sya respetado? Yan ang napapansin ko kay Manny. I don't think he's a good judge of character. Just look at the politicians behind him! Di ba nya alam na pag hindi na sya mabango, these politicians are the first to go?!! Wake up!

I guess the decision is final and it is fine with me. But what is not fine is the way pacman handled the criticism. He should have not commented that way because it is so judgmental of him (that is against mr. ronnie nathanielsz).rnrnginger (maybe) is just so much a Pillipino like everyone else and maybe he or she is just so protective of the mindset that every Filipino should possess.

If Pacmans less than impressive win against Marquez is any indication that his star is slowly fading, Mannys contract negotiations to get the amount he wants in a fight with Mayweather would be a problem. That is simply the nature of this business, that boxers are judged based on their last performance. Recently, Manny lost his P4P title to Mayweather and that will tell the story in their negoiations.rnrnMannys resorting to personal name calling on Ronnie Nathanielz was poor judgement. RN just expressed his opinion about how he saw the fight and offered some advise on what he thought Manny must do to fix some personal issues in his life so he can get back to his old devastating form. rnrn
  • genuine 6 months ago Report Abuse
Lucifer, if you fight manny p atop the squared circle and go at it with wild abandon, chances are, you'll run into a wicked right-left combo. A fighter can only do so much brawling with our pug. The point is, pac can't be dominated aggressively in his last 15 bouts, else, if marquez went at him hammer and tongs, el dinamita will go the way of ricky hatton, dead to the world after rd 2. Marquez probably did enough to at least merit a draw, it's just that a couple of fight judges saw otherwise

Can't blame him making such comments because that bout was too difficult to call to begin with, had too many gray areas. Ronnie Nathanielz has outlived all sports and boxing analyst in the Philippines. RN has been counting boxing scores before the first black & white TV was introduced in the PH, when the term sports analyst did not exist, however I absolutely disagree with his assessment that Pacman might have lost the fight. rnrnIt was a close fight but not enough to call it lost based on the fact that a challenger not only have to totally outperform the champion but dominate aggressively and or possibly knock the champion down to make the difference. Marquez was too defensive and did not initiate action. This fight was akin to Pacmans first fight with Erik Morales where Manny dominated the action but not enough to convince the judges to award the victory to Manny.rnrnRN was correct about the many distractions in Mannys life particularly his reported extra-marital affairs. Boxing is a mental sport and Manny was evidently exhausted after the 3rd round when he was shown gasping for air. I would hate to see Manny lose in his next fight but it seems that is where he's headed.

manny pacquiao, baka nalilimutan mong mga katulad mong mambabatas ang nagtakda kung paano magiging ganap na Philippine citizen ang mga katulad ni RN. Tapos tatawagin mo siyang hindi tunay na Pilipino?

Manny's reaction to a valid point raised by Ronnie Nathanielz is st*p*d and racist! Ronnie is more Filipino than other Philippine-born Filipinos. He has embraced everything about being a Filipino. I hope Manny loses on his next fights for him to realize that fame and fortune is not all what it take to be a Filipino.

@everyone\'s an analyst nowadaysrnrnare you that "simple-minded" that you only comment on the comments rather than on the article? Kapag ba nag-comment na about boxing, boxing analyst na agad? Hindi ba puedeng OPINIONATED muna?rnrnYou don't seem like an anlaytical type of person. Sell your brain, it's underused, you can sell it for a high price.

@@boris, you pac nuthugger. read this.rnrnif manny indeed won, then where does all of the brouhaha coming from? why are they always on the defensive that they won? ironic isn't it?rnrnhave you seen pacquiao and his team's body language and facial expression right after the final bell? have you seen pacman's facial reaction when he was announced as the victor? even pac was surprised, right?rnrnthere are only 3 judges, fyi. you are dismissing the possibility that a rigging happened prior to the fight. that's a very few people to bribe for pacquiao to win. and besides hundreds of millions are at stake if pacquiao will lose.rnrnanyway, i'm not affirming the conspiracy theory. but placing your full trust to the three judges is plain dumb. a lot of match-ups in boxing are fixed, and the victor pre-determined. rnrnby the way, i scored 115-113 for marquez. i won a $200 bet, but i'm not happy with the result.

sometimes... the problem with us Filipinos is we are blinded with what will call... "nationalism"...... rnrnwe tend to forget that our "heroes" are also people that are bound to loose in one point or another. They are bound to have lapses in judgement. rnrnSometimes our flaw as a people is that when we put someone in the pedistle we are so blinded with what they accomplish that when someone criticizes genuinely criticizes their performance or their mistake, that person is immediately labelled as a villain, evil, BOBO, and in my case.... even labelled as UNFILIPINO.rnrnBaket tayo ganun?!? Manny... great as boxer that you are... i do not applaud your reaction to the criticism that you encountered. I agree with Ronnie... totoo naman na madami kang distractions ah... you are a congressman, a show host, a boxer, singer... need a mention more. rnrnI'm betting a million dollars, that when someone reads my post...who put Manny Pacquao in such a high pedistle... i will be labelled as UNFILIPINO... kase I agreed with the truthful statements of Ronnie Nathanielsz.... Hindi kase siya filipino... adopted lang siya... am i right.... Cong. Pacquiao?

Marquez didn't erase Pacquiao's image of invisibility... but he did erase Pacquiao's image of invincibility.
  • dan 6 months ago Report Abuse
Pacquiao down? Bwahahaha. Since when did one of the richest men in the Philippines become down?rnrnCome on. We Filipinos have misplaced makabayan / pinoy pride mentality. We simply don't want to hear dissenting views (not necessarily true or false. just dissenting). We shoot the messengers of bad news. Ronnie was Sri Lankan indeed, and so?rnrnMy blood is 100% Pinoy. And so do many many Pinoys that think Marquez was robbed of the title. So, are we less nationalistic for thinking like this? rnrnTrue, it is not Pacquiao's fault that he won. In fact, he should not be defensive about it. He won. Period. What Marquez achieved is erase that image of invisibility of PacMan. And some narrow minded people just can not accept that. Sri Lankan or not.rnrnrnrn

Whatta bunch of *ss kissers!!!
