Kris Aquino tweets reaction to SC decision on Hacienda Luisita

Published: Nov 28, 2011 - 7:23am

GMA News Online reports that actress Kris Aquino reacted via Twitter to "the unanimous Supreme Court (SC) decision to distribute the land of Cojuangco-owned Hacienda Luisita to the farmers."

On November 26, Aquino posted a series of tweets that began with: "Tomorrow, Nov. 27, will mark our Dad, Ninoy Aquino's 79th birthday. I believe PNoy inherited our Dad's courage in fighting for what is lawful and just."

Then, a few minutes later, she began sharing a "family anecdote." She posted the following tweets:

"Since Luisita is very much in the news, may I share a beautiful story? When our Dad was imprisoned during Martial Law, our lolo Pepe Cojuangco visited him (lolo Pepe died in the mid '70s)."

"Our Dad was being offered a deal, everything taken away from our Mom's parents would be "given back" by the Marcos regime as long as my Dad signed papers admitting his guilt in the made up charges leveled against him."

"My Dad lost his own father at 15 and Lolo Pepe was really like his own father. My Dad told our lolo he'd sign the papers because he didn't want to see my grandparents suffer and lose so much."

"Lolo Pepe told Dad, 'Ninoy kaya namin. I'll take care of Cory and the kids. You fight for what is right because we believe in you.’"

"I hope that gives most of you a clearer picture of what my Mom's family is like. How they suffered and stood with my Dad and took care of us through the worst. To think, Ninoy Aquino was only their in-law," she "tweeted".

Aquino concluded her story with this tweet: "We respect the Supreme Court, we survived even when they took everything from us, including our Dad's life—and we will survive even this."

Kris is a brilliant speaker like her father and what i admire most, her credibility in public statements.

She earns money quite well by talking with sense, highly admirably though, she does it efficiently, wholeheartedly open to her kapwa pinoys and she can afford to speak with great "Honesty".

Anyone talking with full Honesty and Credibility is very very rare in alta sociedad de manila. For me, she is a lively, positive, shining media personality and very interesting while shining in her smile as a show hostmaster. What is TV talks without Kris Aquino? Sigh!!!

FYI lang po, ms kris and for the benefit of the younger spotters na rin; it wasn't the SC then that nailed kris' father to the proverbial cross. If i remember it correctly, it was apo macoy and his kangaroo court of a military tribunal that signed her dad's death sentence. The SC then, if it ever was, was a bit player at most. To his credit, apo macoy knew how to put one over the SC without the justices knowing immediately they've been had or felt slighted. Di tulad ngayon, tahasang bastusan at laglagan. Talaga naman!

The Dole Plantation owns farms in the Philippines, Thailand, Hawaii, Central and South America hundred times larger than the Luisita and have provided jobs to farmers since the early 19th century. Would an intelligent US Supreme Court break up something that have provided jobs to thousand of farmers and their families the past 100 years ? Only in the Philippines where squatters can lay claim on other peoples property and unproductive indolent farmers blaming the landowners as the reason for their poverty.

@dan,rnrnFEUDALISM is still Alive & Well in RP? well, this landmark court decision should be the death throes of feudalism, and signals our entry into the 21th Century.rnrnAs for Kris'remarks, She is right, She doesn't need the Hacienda since she is a working girl and earns gazillions of pesos, as for her brother, well.....

Hacienda luisita is the size of two makati cities, for crying out loud. It's that big! And not all of the vast plantation's under land reform but just most of the tubuhan, 4000+HA of it. The remainder's long been converted for commercial considerations and for kris' clan's use. What's left is still quite a lot. And if gov't won't give adequate financing to the thousands of poor farmers who'll till the land, chances are, kris' clan will most likely buy them farmers out. Otherwise, i respect what her dad had to go through during martial law all because the dad was the nemesis of the former strongman. But for the life of me it's difficult to empathize with her clan's dilemma these days because they represent one of the worst in philippine society, the oligarchy. Besides, they're accountable for the oppression of their former sacadas. Make remuneration for the poor folk that suffered at the hands of the slavedrivers, then maybe i'll fall for ms falling star's sentimientos

@saliva.rnrnThen go to the US where "the supreme court is really the supreme court". Don't muddle the issue anymore.rnrnLol.

kris, you really talk a lot just like your famous brother. please think first before you even open your mouth. Do you actually/ really know the source of your family's riches? your vast land? it's about time that farmers get what they really deserve. it will not hurt your millions. you know, the more you talk, the more you compromise your intelligence.
  • salvia 6 months ago Report Abuse
This supreme court decision to distribute Hacienda Luisita to the farmers legitimizes attempts by squatter colonies to legally lay claim on any privately owned piece of real estate property. Imagine the US Supreme Court distributing lands to farmers owned by Dole Corporation ? Not in America, where the Supreme Court really means supreme court.

how st_upid and insensitive of this woman to liken the loss of her dad to the loss of their land.rnrn1) It diminishes the death of Ninoy. (unless, that is her intention. Lol).rnrn2) Murdering Ninoy at the tarmac is illegal and immoral. Distributing the hacienda luisita land is legal and moral. Not comparable.rnrnHaaay Kris, the more you open your mouth....
