Racial slur on receipt gets U.S.-based pizza chain in hot water; Customer tweets, "My name isn't 'lady chinky eyes'"
USA Today reports that Minhee Cho—who had gone to U.S. pizza company Papa John’s store in New York on Friday, January 6—posted a photo of the receipt that the store had issued her. Cho, who is a communications manager for the Pulitzer Prize-wining non-profit news organization ProPublica, protested the fact that she was named as "lady chinky eyes" in the pizza place’s receipt.

USA Today reports that Minhee Cho—who had gone to U.S. pizza company Papa John's store in New York on Friday, January 6—posted a photo of the receipt that the store had issued her. Cho, who is a communications manager for the Pulitzer Prize-wining non-profit news organization ProPublica, protested the fact that she was named as "lady chinky eyes" in the pizza place's receipt.

 

On Sunday, January 8, Cho posted a photo of the said receipt via her Twitter page. She tweeted: "Hey just FYI my name isn't 'lady chinky eyes' ."

 

 

USA Today noted: "Several hours later, after the message had gone viral, the Louisville, Kentucky-based company formally apologized on its Facebook and Twitter pages for Cho's experience. The company says the employee was dismissed."

The USA Today report revealed that Papa John's spokeswoman Tish Muddon had told the Louisville Courier-Journal that the company was attempting to reach Cho to apologize. The report added: "Cho didn't immediately respond to messages sent by email and Twitter."
