In lieu of planking, "Noynoying" now the preferred protest pose; Malacañang says it "degrades" P-Noy

Will "Noynoying" catch on or will it fizzle out? (Screenshot from "Noynoying" Facebook page)

InterAksyon.com reports that in lieu of planking, protesters are now into a (relatively) new protest move called "Noynoying." InterAksyon.com's Joseph Holandes Ubalde, in his article about this new phenomenon, describes it thus: "Named after President Benigno Aquino III, whose nickname is Noynoy, the new protest form involves a bit of play-acting since it requires people to pick a lazy or laidback pose and then act the same way in a parody of what activists say is the chief executive’s attitude towards incessant oil price hikes and other national problems."

Ubalde noted that, at first, Presidential Spokesperson Atty. Edwin Lacierda dismissed "Noynoying" as  "propaganda (that) will not sell to the public." However, on Friday, March 16, Presidential Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma said it was "degrading." Ubalde quoted Coloma, who explained, "In our view, this is highly inappropriate and we take vigorous exception to this. (Noynoying) is not attuned to the reality that is seen especially with regard to the President’s response to climate change and risk reduction."

Meanwhile, a "Noynoying" Facebook page is already up.

    @ tambay....

Pag may nagalit, ibig sabihin may mali kang nagawa.

The "Noynoying" pose is lame... perhaps if you open your mouth and drool, depend on the advice of others since you can't think for yourself, rely on character assassination against people who may be an obstacle to your plans and be somewhere else fun in the midst of a national crisis..then that would be closer to what is PNoy.

I'd dare these young, idealistic protesters take one step further by p1ss1ng and sh1tt1ng on photos and effigies of PNoy

So this is what we do now? We call each other insulting names kapag hindi nasunod ang gusto natin. Parang bata lang na nag-aaway. Very mature! And this helps how? other than make ourselves look like fools. Sad really. Sexual harassment, racism, now this. We stoop so low we are unrecognizable. If we want changes to happen, there are better ways.

This is an evidence that we are not blind to what's happening around us.

They are used to dismissing issues, and not doing something about it. Now, they thought this is humiliating. Is the very source of this "Noynoying" concept not humiliating?

It's not "degrading" Penoy. It's "imitating" Penoy.
