ABS-CBNNews.com reports that Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman Sixto Brillantes Jr. wants to put off holding the barangay elections this year in order to prepare for the 2016 presidential elections. Moreover, Brillantes said that he expects the COMELEC to still be swamped with protest cases arising from the May 13 elections by then.

As such, according to the report, Brillantes said he will “endorse to Congress a bill postponing the October 2013 barangay elections.” The October barangay election, Brillantes pointed out, is “too close” to the midterm elections.

In the report, Brillantes was quoted as saying that he is instead looking at October 2014 or January 2015 as possible dates for the barangay polls.

After the midterm polls not two weeks back, who would be interested running polls again-this time for barangay leaders?! Pnoy is, methinks.
