GMA News Online reports that former Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman has denied that the "egg structure" in the rotunda across Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was built for P390 million, contrary to the claim made in a blog entry circulating on Facebook.

Fernando explained that the structure, called ďLayag Islas,Ē was the award-winning architectural design by a group of architects, who joined the NAIA Terminal 3 Landmark Rotundas Design Competition. It was built in 2010. The entire area encompassed by the structure is called Circulo del Mundo.

"A two-year old blog post of design consultant and entrepreneur Ito Kish has resurfaced. The blog entry, entitled 'The 390 million peso Egg of Naia 3,' has been circulating on Facebook, while a photo of the structure from Anonymous Incorporated alleging its P390 million price tag has been shared more than 2,000 times on the social networking site," the report said.

It is truly one of the ugliest works of architecture we have produced yet. And that is saying something. Not only that, the road used to be straight. Instead we made a rotunda that's not round. It's a 90 degree right turn with an amoeba shaped island that fouls up traffic and pinches into too few lanes. 2010 and the government can't figure out a) how to build a "circle" and b) that a 90 degree right turn might create uh...traffic?

it's still one of the ugliest structure i've ever seen. they could have just made that a proper intersection so traffic in that area could move a little more freely. grabe how it takes up so much of the road.
