Top 10 iPhone Apps Every Pinoy Should Get

Vince Sales | Published: Jan 11, 2011 - 5:53pm

With over 300,000 apps in the iTunes app store (as of October 2010), choosing just ten is an impossible task, but not one we're shy about here at Spot.PH. We scoured the app store for ten iPhone apps that Filipinos shouldn't live without based on the following criteria:

• We chose apps that we thought SPOT.ph readers would find indispensable.

• Locally-developed apps took precedence over others. "Relevance" is the keyword here.

• We ignored the usual suspects. Do you really want to see Plants Versus Zombies and Angry Birds on another iPhone app list? We didn't think so either.

• No jailbreak apps. Though jailbreak gives you access to many legitimate apps not found (or possible) in the iTunes store, it's also the gateway to software piracy, and we have enough of that already, thank you very much.

Must-have apps for iPhone-savvy Pinoys. Click to see more apps.

Are you an iPad user too? See Spot.PH's list of Top 10 iPad Apps Every Pinoy Should Get here.

Ever heard of another Filipino made app that actually has the children's well-being in mind? Check out http://www.maddieandmatt.com/! AppLabs has already released two free apps. You might want to test it a bit.

Marj, wag ka na makialam. Saka wag ka na rin mag-english. UNDEREMPLOYED, word ba yan? Anong DISCONNECT? Yung DSL mo ba yan na di ninyo nabayaran. Isa ka pa eh, kiyeme ka ng kiyeme wala ka naman narating na sa buhay. Kahit colegio di mo naabot. Kaya please lang, SHUT UP! TH ka, Marj!

33% of the population do not eat 3x a day. A lot of teens are out of school if not underemployed. However, people have the latest and the greatest gadgets when you roam the streets of Manila. People text like there is no end. There is a disconnect somewhere.

Hullo, Mr irrelevance. Double-checked News Center PH and it does indeed have feeds from inquirer.net. As for Ayala Malls, that's up for debate. I placed it there because we have precious few geo-location apps, and this is potentially useful, though yes, it's still buggy!

@alvin, if it were Top 10 iOS apps, then it would include the iPad and it has its own top 10 here.

Should be renamed Top 10 iOS apps for Pinoys. Some of these apps (if not all) are also available for iPod Touch users... and yes...not everyone has iPhone.

I don't see TawagPinoy here. It's an indispensable app which allows you to:rnrn★ Filter and search your contacts by network rn★ Make special calls without memorizing prefixes (Globe subscribers only) rn★ Browse thru your contacts with a push of a button rn★ Sorts your contacts into Globe, Smart, SUN, and landlinern

Seriously Mr. Sales, recommending the 'ayala malls' app? It only has a one and a half star rating! Although it has a good UI, pero naman, that app really sucked eggs =\rnrnThe news app u recommended didn't have sources from inquirer..better get 'pinoy news' for a more comprehensive read..rnrnAnd lastly, where's the app from click the city?? That single app could beat most of the apps u mentioned here..rnrnNice review =P
