Art Exhibits by Toym Imao, Jomike Tejido + More to Check Out This November

(SPOT.ph) Art spaces have finally begun opening their doors two years since the pandemic started; and exhibitions in various formats make it more interesting for art enthusiasts to pay a visit to museums, galleries, and cultural centers. Get to experience art in person while appreciating the physical and tactile forms of the artworks, whether a painting, a sculpture, an installation, and other media-based works within a space that facilitates appreciation and engagement.

Clunker

In the solo exhibit Clunker, Pow Martinez situates his subjects in a state of confinement and isolation. He paints distinct features with "familiar solid-eyed, rubber band-lipped, and ‘80s era mullet-rocking characters" that may be viewed as something humorous and yet absurd.

a priori/a posterior

Rhaz Oriente in her first solo exhibition explores the immaterial such as light and shadow through the layering of materials. The works installed from the ceiling and wall-bound reflect, deflect, and illuminate to visually translate the philosophical concepts in a priori/ a posteriori.

Visual Transcriptions

Visual Transcriptions is a presentation of particular scenes that are translated through the lens of photographer Chris Linag. The photo exhibit is curated by Geric Cruz and Mukki Luistro and will open alongside a benefit gig titled "With a Little Help From Our Friends."

First Edition 2022

Now on its third installment, Cartellino’s First Edition 2022 showcases artworks that bring art closer to children and art enthusiasts of all ages. On display are pieces in various media, such as prints, paintings, digital illustrations, and art toys. The project is part of the efforts to show that "art can be affordable and is capable of driving equal opportunity, sustainability, and security."

Moments of Quietude

For her second solo show, Gabi Nazareno interprets calm and stillness. This state of being still or repose reflects the printmaker's recent contemplations in life. It is curated by Marz Aglipay.

Kumot Yamot

Kumot Yamot showcases Kaloy Sanchez’s figurative paintings of nude women and their intimate relationships in a very personal space, such as the bed. Also explored are the underlying emotions and un/easiness underneath the covers. "Kasabay ng pagtulog ay naaninag ang nakataning na pagyao ng mga alalahanin at nagiging ang mga naising walang ibang makakabatid," the exhibition notes state.

Free Phenomenon

In the two-man exhibition Free Phenomenon, Kawayan De Guia and Louie Cordero demonstrate a "playful and charged dynamic that highlights a mastery over imagery and narrative-making." Both artists employ their own visual language as they respond to current socio-political issues through their works.

Bodies

In Bodies, the artists have their own contemporary take on the classical tradition of nude figures as subjects in a work of art. The group exhibition features pieces by Don Bryan Bunag, Jack De Castro, Wiljun Jay Magsino, Leonard Onia, and Kaloy Sanchez.

Flame

Artist-curator Stephanie Fondoso tries to capture the "flower’s fleeting beauty through lumens" and translates them into images and poetic depictions. The opening reception also featured a pop-up studio session by photographer Jovel Lorenzo where visitors can get a chance to have their handmade black and white portraits taken.

Past Expressing

Fundacion Sansó’s Past Expressing explores the image of a skull and its usage as central symbolism in visual arts and as shown in the work of Juvenal Sansó. This special presentation includes interpretations of the theme by Agnes Arellano, Anton Del Castillo, Francis Nacion, Janos Delacruz, Jomike Tejido, Jonathan Dangue, Kristine Lim, Louie Ignacio, Michael Cacnio, Pepe Mendoza, Richard Buxani, Roel Obemio, and Toym Imao among others.
