Jonathan Larson's tick, tick...BOOM! Returns Onstage This 2023
(SPOT.ph) With back-to-back shows scheduled every weekend, it's safe to say that Philippine theater is more alive than ever. And local theater company 9 Works Theatrical is finally going back onstage after a pandemic-induced hiatus with a restaging of tick, tick...BOOM! A trailer was released today, June 7; and the scheduled run is in August of this year.

tick, tick...BOOM!, an autobiographical musical by Jonathan Larson, became even more popular after a movie-musical version was streamed on Netflix in November 2021. It starred Andrew Garfield as the aspiring composer Jon, who lives in New York in 1990 with a very Bohemian crowd. He struggles between keeping his day job and writing full time. If that storyline sounds familiar, that's also because tick, tick...BOOM! is the precursor—although less popular—of the hit musical Rent.
9 Works Theatrical, which also brought us Eto na! Musikal nAPO! and American Idiot, previously staged tick, tick...BOOM! in 2016. It starred Jef Flores, Ariel Reonal, and Tanya Manalang. We have yet to know if they're reprising their roles.
