(SPOT.ph) You’re a big kid now. And with Father’s Day coming up, it’s your turn to show Dad your appreciation and take the old man out for a memorable meal in the city! Nothing beats bonding through food after all—especially when it’s hearty, satisfying, damn-good food we’re talking about—and your pop’s bound to appreciate being treated at one of these stellar restos in Manila.
Treat Dad at one of these dining spots this Father’s Day 2023:
Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, City of Dreams
The newest branch of this steak institution raises the, erm, stakes with new grilled items Dad would love—think Grilled Barbecue Short Ribs (P4,788) or Barbecue Baby Back Ribs (P3,588), alongside their always-glorious Porterhouse (starts at P4,488/one kilogram). That their interiors display the classic, old-world steakhouse look is a welcome bonus.
Wolfgang’s Steakhouse is at UG/F City of Dreams, Entertainment City corner Macapagal Avenue, Aseana Avenue, Parañaque City.
Dad might already be well-versed in the world of Anguses and Wagyu, but how’s about the Argentinian and Brazilian grass-fed stuff of Bolzico Beef? Try the variety prepared different ways at Chingolo Deli—in Beef Tacos (P395), turned into the heavyweight Chingolo Burger (P525), or cooked to juicy perfection in the Steak Frites (P1,150). Doesn’t hurt that the resto interiors strike the right balance between being brooding enough to feel special—but also laid-back enough that you don’t have to feel intimidated about stepping in.
Chingolo Deli is at UPRC III Building, 2289 Chino Roces Avenue, Makati City.
One World Butchers
This Poblacion dining spot celebrates all things carnivorous, what with their line of artisanal sausages and charcuterie made in-house plus other meaty eats. Expect great-quality versions of classics like Pan-Seared Meatfloaf (P600) and their six-hour Smoked Pork Belly (P830); you can also try their signature sausages, like the Nürnberger (P350) or Sisig Sausage (P380), grilled to order for dine-in.
One World Butchers is at 8491 Kalayaan Avenue corner Matilde Street, Poblacion, Makati City.
Before their physical outposts closed, Nolita and Joe’s Brew were both loved for their pizza and craft beer, respectively. They’re thankfully making a virtual comeback of sorts with the recent opening of Nolita Joe’s in Poblacion! Their classic covers both classic and one-of-a-kind pies—think Pepperoni (P160), Spinach Artichoke (P280), even Cheeseburger (P220)—in New York-style mammoth sizes bound to fill you up. In between bites you and Dad can guzzle down Joe’s Brew’s signatures like the Fish Rider (P150/glass, P220/pint), their take on a pale ale; and Sunsweeper (P180/glass, P250/pint), a spiced and pine-ridden double IPA.
Nolita Joe’s is at 5666 Don Pedro Street, Poblacion, Makati City.
Great-quality meat hot off the grill is the deceptively simple premise behind Burnt Bean—but oh, do they deliver. Coming from the folks behind Holy Smokes in Poblacion, this BGC spot dishes out some truly fine 48-Hour Beef Ribs (P2,950) and Pork Iberico (P1,500) both succulent and full of flavor as can be. But we’ll let you in on a secret: what you really ought not to miss from their menu is the Potato Pavé—a sublime starter of spuds that are sliced thin, stacked, pressed, and fried for a flaky creation that’s then served with a bacon foam and grated grana padano.
Burnt Bean is at Unit 204, C2, High Street Central, Bonifacio Global City.
One of Chef Myke Tatung’s newest establishments, this Quezon City gem is a a post-war heritage house that dates back even earlier than the 1960s; it’s as visually striking as it’s homey—perfect for bringing the whole fam (or even just Dad!) to. That’s just the visual side of things, though; what awaits on the menu are crowdpleasers that include Bacon Wrapped Prawns (P480), Salpicao (P700), and a perfectly seasoned Paella Mixta (P1,200).
Azadore is at 111 Scout Fernandez, Corner Scout Torillo Street, Quezon City.
Spanish food is always bound to please. Switch it up from your usuals and invite the Pop to visit Manduca, which boasts a great range of modern tapas, pica-pica, and more. The Cachopo Asturiano (P1,790/good for two, P2,990/good for three or more)—a schnitzel-like breaded pocket of of veal striploin layered with ham and cheese—makes for a satisfying main to share with the fam; you can also go for one of their set menus, like the Striploin 400 (P4,500) that comes with Jamon or Chicken Croquetas, Salmon Tartare, Striploin, and a bottle of wine.
Manduca is at G/F Commerce Center Building, 31 Street corner 4th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City.
Having been around since the ‘70s, Kashmir’s an institution as far as the Indian food scene in Manila goes—and they happily made their splash in BGC with an enthralling new look in 2022. Dad’s bound to bowl over their tandoori specialties and curries, which include the bold and crisp-crunchy Fukna (P395), the classic Chicken Tikka Masala (P565), and the carnivore-pleasing Mutton Chops (P365/100 grams).
Kashmir is at 3/F One Bonifacio High Street, 5th Avenue corner 28th Street, Bonifacio Global City.
Boudica Café Bar
With specials like the thick and meaty Smoked Bacon Slab (P465) and rightfully loaded Boudica Burger (P495), Boudica Café Bar in Ortigas is bound to keep Dad’s belly beyond pleased. They have a small private zone where you can hold small functions, but you can also opt to hang out at the main dining area by the bar—and sip on cocktails like the triple-killer Daddy Yam (with gin, whiskey, aperol, and cream!) while you’re at it.
Boudica Café Bar is at Unit C106-107, City Golf Plaza, Doña Julia Vargas, Barangay Ugong, Pasig City.
Raging Bull Burgers
With meat, bread, and other ingredients (pickles! cheese! veg!) in one handheld package, burgers pretty much perfectly fit the definition of “dad food” to a T. Raging Bull Burgers grills up loaded versions of the dish—choose from the classic Kickass (P295), the sweet-spicy Raging Wagyu (P395) with braised onions and a sweet chili chutney, or the rightfully named Mighty Beast (P375) with maple bacon, aged cheddar, and a spiced beer mustard—using 1/3-pound Angus beef patties as their base.
Raging Bull Burgers is at Shangri-La at the Fort, 30th Street corner 5th Avenue, Bonifacio Global City; and Assembly Ground at The Rise, G/F The Rise, 7248 Malugay, Makati City.
