(SPOT.ph) Drinking coffee is no longer just a way to stay awake during that dreaded mid-morning slump at work. Now, everyone has an excuse to snag a stool in a coffee shop—to read a book, catch up on work, or even just to people-watch! But some places can get a bit intimidating, especially if you’re not a coffee expert. Whether you’re a coffee nerd or someone who simply loves enjoying a cup of joe, we’ve found the right place for you.
Need Coffee is a specialty coffee shop in BF Homes that churns out freshly roasted, ground, and brewed beans. Aside from the inviting and cozy smell of coffee, this place will also charm you with its chill vibe. The lighting creates a quiet and intimate ambience together with warm accents of wood and black furniture. It’s definitely a hangout that allows you to get creative and caffeinated in one go. There’s even an outdoor area if you simply want to enjoy the weather.
Need Coffee’s concept lives up to its name: a go-to place when you just, well, need coffee. “[We] kept thinking of names and then it came to a point that a lot of the names we wanted were not available. So we thought, ‘You know what? I just need coffee!’ and we put it in and it worked,” shares co-owner Daniel Roque, who also represented the Philippines in the World Aeropress Championship held in Dublin, Ireland in 2016.
They basically give you what you need (even if it’s something off the menu), but Need Coffee is also a place that encourages you to learn how great coffee can taste. Don’t expect a long menu though. It’s all about careful selections here.
Shake
Latte
Start with their Batch Brew (P80), or specialty coffee made in a big batch every morning; it’s filtered and has a fruity taste. If you love milkshakes, you’ll definitely enjoy the Shake (P180), which is coffee with vanilla ice cream, milk, and a shot of espresso. Their Latte (P160), which you can enjoy hot or cold, has velvety milk with hints of pecan nuts and baking chocolate.
Iced Americano
Need Coffee also has the Flight (P180), which allows you to experience and understand the taste of coffee in its two forms: with milk and on its own as an espresso. It also comes with rose water soda to cleanse the palate. Their Iced Americano (P140), simply put, is dad’s black coffee in a cocktail shaker, strained out with a head of foam just like a Guinness stout.
Iced Mocha
Hot Chocolate
Another great way to cool down is by sipping a glass of iced Mocha (P180) with coffee and chocolate in a chilled tall glass. Of course, for rainy days or when you simply want something comforting, nothing beats wrapping your hands around their warm mug of creamy Hot Chocolate (P160).
Need Coffee pushes locally sourced coffee beans. “Our espresso beans are roasted by Yardstick so we’re looking for the profile of dark chocolate and nuts, but what’s more interesting—and not a lot of other coffee shops are doing this—is that we’re featuring small local roasters for our filtered and pour-over coffees,” says Daniel.
Salted Egg Brazo de Mercedes
Snickerdoodles
Banana Crisp Cake
Almond Cranberry and Chia Yogurt Cup
There’s no kitchen here but they offer some desserts to go along with your drinks. One of the bestsellers is their Salted Egg Brazo de Mercedes (P170). The surprise lies in its salted-egg core, which really works as it complements the egg whites used in the cake’s crust. The Snickerdoodles (P60) pays tribute to the classic cinnamon sugar cookie with a twist, while the Banana Crisp Cake (P160) is perfect if you want something fruity. There’s also the Almond Cranberry and Chia Yogurt Cup (P100) if you want a healthier snack option.
Basically, Need Coffee is there not only when you actually need some caffeine in your system, but also for when you just want to hang out minus the noisy crowd.
