( The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange is our gateway to places far beyond Metro Manila, and now they're making it easier for us to bring our fur babies along too.

There are a lot of rules about uncommon pets on most public transportation in the Philippines (Read: Not Allowed), but the PITX is welcoming pets of any kind in the terminal (even going as far as to include a chicken in the infographic to prove that point).

Although pet leashes and carriers are highly encouraged, the PITX said it is not a must. The same goes for diapers, as long as pet owners will clean up after the pet. The only actual requirement is to show the pet's complete vaccination records at the PITX entrance to ensure the safety of everyone else in the terminal.

As for actually boarding pets on the buses, this is out of the PITX’s control. Passengers are instructed to coordinate with bus operators before the trip to ask if pets are allowed to travel with you.

Pet-friendly bus operators at the PITX

Some bus operators aren't explicit about their pet policies. A quick look on social media shows passengers claiming that bus lines Amihan and Philtranco allow small pets, but there's no official declaration.

Below are the PITX bus operators known to accept pets on board as per LTFRB's Memorandum Circular No. 2020-003. Based on this policy, only small to medium-sized pets are allowed to board public buses, jeepneys, UV express, and P2P buses "without having to compromise the safety, health issues, and convenience of other passengers."

Other non-negotiable rules to keep in mind for all bus travels: Pet animals should be in a diaper, placed inside a carrier or cage, and should be beside the passenger-owner. Pet owners are required to shoulder the extra fare for the seat occupied by the pet. No matter what though, it's always best to check the terms and conditions for each bus liner before scheduling the trip.

ALPS The Bus Inc.

ALPS will allow small to medium sized pets—just make sure they've showered before hopping on the bus! Check out this five-month-old Aspin who recently boarded an ALPS bus to Batangas.

However, not every route might be open to pets, especially ones with longer travel time, so it’s still best to inquire through ALPS on Facebook.

Bicol Isarog Transport System Inc.

Bicol Isarog Transport System will allow pets that weigh up to 26 kilograms at most to board the following routes:

  • Naga to Isarog (Trip codes B and Pena T1)
  • Sorsogon to Pena (Trip code N)
  • Legaspi to Skybus Pena (Trip codes Z1 and Z2)
  • Masbate (Trip code 23)
  • Virac to LSJ (Trip code V1)

It should go without saying that they do not allow exotic pets and endangered species to be on board, not even in the compartment area. For more information, check out Bicol Isarog Transport System Inc. on Facebook.

Pets are allowed inside DLTB buses with the same conditions listed in the LTFRB's Memorandum Circular No. 2020-003. For more information, check out the DLTB PH Online Booking on Facebook.

Superlines Transportation Co.

Superlines Transportation Co. will generally allow pets on buses but they will be placed at the baggage compartment “at your own risk.” Do take note that this could be “detrimental to the welfare of pets" as stated in LTFRB's Memorandum Circular No. 2020-003.

It is ultimately up to the bus crew in charge if they will allow pets inside the bus. Passengers can inquire through Superlines Transportation Co. on Facebook.
