(SPOT.ph) Let’s be real: Online shopping can take up a lot of time, regardless of the convenience brought to our lives. The phenomenon of overchoice is real, and sometimes, we just want to purchase a product without having to compare prices and read reviews for the next hour. It’s so easy to get lost in a sea of choices that our natural response to it is either to buy everything or buy nothing at all.
So you may want to take note: Lazada has launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot called LazzieChat. Instead of spending hours scrolling through product listings, LazzieChat will offer specific product recommendations that are aligned to the user’s interests and concers.
LazzieChat began a phased rollout in the Philippines this week—arguably the first e-commerce AI chatbot of its kind in Southeast Asia. Powered by Azure OpenAI and ChatGPT, it's a personal shopper that can pretty much change the way we currently shop.

How to use LazzieChat
You can swipe down on the Lazada app homepage to reveal LazzieChat, if the feature has made it to your phone. It should be available 24/7.
According to Lazada, LazzieChat is most helpful for fast-moving consumer good categories like beauty and fashion. No more wafting through a hundred products to find what you’re looking for.
LazzieChat will even send relevant product links in the same chat so users can just check-out the item at a moment’s notice.
Note that LazzieChat is only available to certain Lazada users in the Philippines for now. Check the app to see if you’ve already got yours, otherwise you might have to wait for this feature to show up in the coming days.
Fun fact: The AI chatbot is named after Lazada’s lion mascot, Lazzie.
Not just Lazada chat support
It isn’t just Lazada toying around with AI capabilities for an experimental chatbot. This week, TikTok confirmed a recent rumor that it is also testing an in-app AI chatbot called Tako with selected users in the Philippines.
Tako was created to enhance the search and discovery experience on the platform. Specifically, Tako can recommend videos based on what users ask it.
“No current plans for this beyond these early tests, but we’re excited to hear your feedback!” TikTok Communications tweeted.
