Philippines' first online art auction to launch on January 20

Its maiden offering includes works from Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, Elmer Borlongan, Lynyrd Paras, Ronald Ventura, and more!

(SPOT.ph) Avant Auctions, the first online auction house in the country, is set to launch on January 20. Its introductory offering is dubbed Auspicious Art Auction, with a collection of 88 works by some of the Philippines’ best artists.

Owner of Gallery Big and founding director of ManilArt Jonathan Sy initiated the online auction. “Our goal is to provide an alternative platform to access art,” said Sy. “Putting auctions online will make it easier and more convenient for bidders to find premium works and, for sellers, including artists themselves, to reach a wider, global market.” Avant Auctions specializes in fine art as well as high value assets like watches and jewelry, automobile, and prime real estate.

Among the first pieces to go under the hammer are some important works from the last century including “Summer Houses in Brittany” by Félix Resurrección Hidalgo (1901), “Flower and Fruit Vendors” by Oscar Zalameda (circa 1980s), and “Diaphanous—Anthuriums B- CCXXIV” by the late Romulo Olazo. Other artists whose works are also to be auctioned off are National Artists Federico Aguilar Alcuaz, Arturo Luz, Jose Joya, and J. Elizalde Navarro, as well as contemporary artists Andres Barrioquinto, Elmer Borlongan, Lynyrd Paras, Yasmin Sison Ching, Rodel Tapaya, and Ronald Ventura.
