(SPOT.ph) The Marvel Universe has Iron Man, Thor, and the X-Men, but closer to home, we have the good ol' Darna, Lastikman, and Kapitan Boom to get us through the day, all thanks to writer and artist Mars Ravelo. Born on October 9, 1916, he produced almost 300 comic book titles with stories that range from superhero adventures and science fiction to romantic narratives in a span of four decades. To celebrate the centennial of his birth, the Cultural Center of the Philippines presents Mars Ravelo Reinterpreted, an exhibit of his creations through the eyes of various artists. It runs until November 13 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

The participating artists include Ravelo's children Rex, Richard, and Rita. Joining them are Kris Abrigo, Ang Gerilya, Virgilio Aviado, Mariano Ching, Ernest Concepcion, Maisha dela Cruz, FaBo, Dex Fernandez, R.M. De Leon, Leeroy New, Jonas Roces, Jericho Vamenta, and MM Yu. One of the show's most notable features is the use of the artists' own styles and media, their distinct sensibilities applied to the works of the comics legend. It is curated by Dean Zuberi Africa.
