Dreams Come Alive in Vibrant Colors at This Poblacion Hangout

Futur:st presents Jer Dee's first-ever solo art exhibit.

(SPOT.ph) When Futur:st—Today x Future's sister bar in Makatireopened in October 2020, they had to adapt to strict health protocols like social distancing and limited capacity. It's a big change for the popular Poblacion hangout, which often draws in the partying crowd on weekends. But Futur:st still does what they do best: put the spotlight on Filipino artistswhether DJs, musicians, or visual artists. And from February 5 to 18, illustrator and graphic designer Jer Dee is holding his very first solo show titled Tempest.

In a short exchange with SPOT.ph, Dee revealed that the show started out as a small project of documenting his dreams immediately after waking up. Like most of us who are stuck at home during quarantine, the scenarios in his head are more vivid than ever, which according to experts is caused by stress and anxiety during traumatic eventsthe global pandemic included.

"I've observed upon writing a lot of them that they're all connected to my hometowna place where I haven't gone to since 2017. I live alone and in isolation in Quezon City while the rest of my family is in the province. I didn't realize until later that I've been missing them so much and I wanted to pay tribute," the artist continues. Tempest, as a result, becomes an ode to his hometown. The show features subjects in an alternate universe, depicting the things he went through during the quarantine.
