Is Mula sa Buwan Finally Coming Back to the Stage in 2021?
A teaser was revealed today, May 16.
(SPOT.ph) From 2016 to 2018, the all-original Filipino musical Mula sa Buwan had three runs—almost an annual staging that just got better and better every year. Since then, we've just gotten bits and pieces of the show: a one-night-only musical concert in October 2019, an online streaming of a few scenes in April, and a playback of the musical concert's highlights on May 16. But it looks like Mula sa Buwan is finally making a comeback in 2021.
In a Facebook post, it was announced that a series of events is lined up for until the end of 2020. "[In 2021,] we are hopeful that we'll see each other again...sa tanghalan," the message concluded.
It was in December 2010 when director-playwright Pat Valera staged Cyrano: Isang Sarsuwela, which is the original Mula sa Buwan, at the University of Asia and the Pacific. Five years later, he—along with William Elvin Manzano—turned the piece into an even bigger musical that filled the theater halls at Ateneo de Manila University. The rest as they say is history. In 2021, Valera and his team are celebrating a decade of Mula sa Buwan's journey in theater. Fingers crossed they’re doing it with a grand show onstage, right where they belong.
