Catch live music, spoken-word performances, and a film screening all in one place tomorrow
It's also a benefit for our four-legged friends.
(SPOT.ph) Bring some animal food to donate and you can get in for free at the 10th anniversary benefit of Female Artists and Musicians' Evolution. The all-women collective of visual artists, musicians, and spoken-word artists presents Comeback! Come Home! (Or Simply Come!) on September 17, 7 p.m. at the Naked Turtle Sports Bar in Quezon City. Proceeds are for the Philippine Animal Rescue Team.
“Female Artists and Musicians' Evolution (FAME) has always been about frontloading female musicians and artists. Although we are not really active in the scene, the individuals that work behind FAME are all for supporting such endeavors. For the past years we've been meaning to stage another event because we miss it and because we want to reunite with our old friends again,” explained the brains behind the all-female group.
When asked why they chose the animal advocacy for their anniversary show, they enthused: “We wanted to do something more—something that also interests our friends, our community, and even the musicians and artists that we involved in this event: animals. We noticed that Philippine Animal Rescue Team was announcing that they're running out of food for the animals in their shelter and so we also see this as a great opportunity to dedicate our 10th year to them.”
Early birds will be treated to a free screening of Reaching for the Moon, a Brazilian drama film that follows the love story of American poet Elizabeth Bishop and Brazilian architect Lota de Macedo Soares. Kooky Tuason and Marty Tengco from Romancing Venus and Jamie Delos Reyes from White Wall Poetry will be gracing the stage with their spoken-word performances. In between these are music by FAME favorites such as Flush and the Toilets, Flying Ipis, Mat Rabena, Matilda, and Rita Martinez.
