(SPOT.ph) "Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinanggalingan ay hindi makararating sa paroroonan" is a popular Tagalog quote attributed to one of the Philippines' greatest heroes, Jose Rizal. It basically emphasizes the importance of knowing your history, unless you want to commit the same mistakes in the future—something very relevant right now, given recent events. This is what A History of Ideas, a talk to be presented by Filipino journalist Lourd de Veyra and composer Erwin Romulo, is all about. It is scheduled to happen on August 4, 6 p.m., at the College of Saint Benilde in Manila.
A History of Ideas is, as de Veyra describes it, "a multimedia presentation on contemporary Philippine history and culture." It's also a glimpse into a new subject to be offered by the College of Saint Benilde's Arts Management program. It puts emphasis on mindset, culture, and ideas at present as products of the past. Proceeds from the talk's admission fee, which is at P500, will be used to create instructional materials and pursue further research in the said discipline. But students and teachers can get in for P250 while those coming in groups of five can get one ticket for free. Just send an e-mail to Kaye de la Rosa at firstname.lastname@example.org, text Julia Francia at 0955-563-1368 or Vangie Binarao at 0917-563 -8926, or call 230-5100 ext. 3863.
A History of Ideas is on August 4, 6 p.m. at 5/F SDA Theater, School of Design and Arts Campus, De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde, 950 P. Ocampo Street, Manila. Tickets, priced at P500, are available through Ticketworld. For more information, follow A History of Ideas on Facebook.
