Fleur de Lys
For Charley, D&G should be Fleud De Lys' signature dessert.
Fleur de Lys Patisserie is a six year old cake shop owned by pastry chef Jackie Ang Po. Her desserts introduced some flair to the usual classic cake and cookie favorites at the Trinoma Dessert Haven, where her cakes made themselves known with whimsical name introductions such as Dulce & Gabanana (a banana and dulce de leche tart, P95 / mini tart), Fountain of Youth (a chocolate cheesecake with fudge icing, P90 / slice), and her best-selling The Next Best Thing (a warm chocolate cake filled with caramel and served with vanilla ice-cream, P108).
I decided to try their Dulce & Gabanana and the seasonal Strawberry Pie with a chocolate filling, baked in a butter crust flanked by spirals of whipped cream.
My verdict: I'd go back for the Dulce & Gabanana, whose whipped cream topping and dulce de leche filling had just the right amount of sweetness, the bananas had just the right ripeness, and the graham cracker crust infused with a tinge of ginger flavoring was just the right thickness.
The Strawberry Pie on the other hand, had bordering on overripe strawberries, a wonderfully thick chocolate center, but had a too-hard crust that I wasn't entirely pleased with. Perhaps trying the pie fresh out of the oven or on a better day would be a better experience.
