(SPOT.ph) Joining the throng of new restos and dessert spots that dot Connecticut Street in Greenhills is Naci Comfort Food & Dessert Bar, a casual restaurant that becomes a post-dinner drinks destination after the late dining crowd thins out. The menu was developed with the help of consulting chef Ed Quimson of Spanish restaurant La Tasca fame.
A quick glance at the menu shows a curious mix of American food staples as well as fusion dishes. "It's our idea of comfort food; the menu is a result of Chef Ed's translation of what we think of as comforting dishes," shares young Naci owner Nadine Nocom. What to try here? Choose Naci's version of the Shepherd's Pie (P145, solo; P280, for sharing) a filling casserole of ground beef, veggies and a crusted mashed potato topping with savory melted cheese; the Junior Crab Cakes (P210), crisp crabmeat croquettes served with a slighty tangy Remoulade; and the Fox Square Fish Fillet (P330), a serving of perfectly pan-fried cream dory topped with sweet, soft bananas and served with veggies on the side. Other dishes unique to Naci include the Beef Caldereta Lasagna (P270), Longganisa and Green Grapes Pasta (P220), and Nadine's Adobo Canneloni (P280), flaked adobo rolled in pasta with béchamel sauce laced with adobo sauce and mozzarella.
Cocktails, wine and shooters are also served but what you should really stay for are Naci's desserts. Made fresh on-site at the open kitchen that greets you when you step inside the restaurant, must-order sweet plates include the Chocolate Fondant (P120), a flourless chocoholic's treat with rich Belgian chocolate and butter wrapped with a dark chocolate strip, and a slice of Southern Sweetheart, Naci's version of red velvet (P120 per slice; P850, junior-size; P1,100,whole cake) which, Nadine shares, is a big crowd favorite.
