( Some time last year, a billboard along EDSA featured a familiar green-and-red logo with the words "Coming this summer." Tummies grumbling, mouths drooling in anticipation, we waited. Quiznos, the world-famous sandwich chain, was coming to Manila.

But summer came and went and soon the billboard was changed to "Coming soon." It wasn’t until September 23 this year when Quiznos finally opened shop in Bonifacio High Street’s Parkade One.

Quiznos is set up like a cafeteria: you line up, choose your pickins (even the bun-Artisan Wheat, Italian White, Rosemary Parmesan), select a size (small at 5", regular at 8", large at 11"), then walk to the opposite end to pay all while watching your sandwich being rolled through the toaster.

You go to Quiznos for one reason: the submarine sandwiches. It’s served them in three categories: Classic (P125, P175, P225), Signature (P135, P185, P235), and Savory Steak (P195, P295, P395). We’re partial to the Peppercorn Steak ourselves, but the Classic options have a cult following.

For something more familiar (or if you’re just having a hard time choosing), try The Traditional, a hefty stack of deli meats (roast beef, turkey breast, and ham) carelessly tucked inside a bun; cheddar for sharpness, olives for bite, veggies for crunch, and ranch dressing for tang and richness.  Another bestseller, or if you’ve just gotten off payday and can afford a P400 sandwich, the Double Cheese Cheesesteak is a deliciously stuffed mess of prime rib, double all-natural Swiss cheese, sautéed onions, and mayo.

Apart from an extensive selection of sandwiches, Quiznos also offers P99 flatbreads, sliders, soup, salads, and Frito Lay chips. Affordable, downright delicious, varied, Quiznos is a total merienda haven.  We wouldn’t mind spending an afternoon here although we do wish they’d move their water station away from the trash area.
