(SPOT.ph) Regular and loyal patrons of Wee Nam Kee have been casually throwing in the suggestion that yellow chicken should be on the menu and we hope it brings them delight to know that for the entire month of May and June, the Serendra and Glorietta 2 branches will be having the Yellow Chicken Festival.

One thing that you must know about these flightless birds is that they are indeed yellow. Their diet, composed mostly of corn, gives them that sunny shade and what's more interesting about these chickens is that they get walked every day. You'd think that the daily exercise would give them leaner meat but instead, it makes them bigger and juicier.

Don't be frightened. They don't serve the dish in this manner, this is just the best way to charm you into trying the yellow chicken. Linfred Yap, managing partner of Wee Nam Kee, explained to us that you won't find headless yellow chicken shipments from Malaysia since they believe that chopping the head off this lucky poultry is a bad omen.

The chickens with heads on look noticeably larger and, if you'll observe carefully, the skin looks a little more succulent. Once you taste it, you'll find that the difference isn't superficial.

As Yap points out, these chickens have more fat content than their local counterparts. The skin a little thicker, the meat softer, and for those with discerning tongues, this makes all the difference.

The dish is available steamed or roasted and while both are good, the steamed version highlights the scrumptious skin more. They recommend having it with pounded ginger, chili, or dark soya sauce but eaten on its own, the meat is satisfyingly tasty. If you're skeptical, you can go for a small serving at an affordable P388, which is only a hundred pesos more than the regular chicken. Yellow chicken fans can upgrade to medium (P768) or the hefty large serving (P1388).

Wee Nam Kee is open to extending the promo, or better yet making it part of the menu permanently, but it all depends on how well it'll be received. Hardcore fans should go and make these birds feel welcome and perhaps, they'll stay for good.
