(SPOT.ph) Luxury bakery Ladurée will soon plant itself in Manila. This news comes at the tail end of a nearly three-year-long craze over macarons, but we have no doubt that this announcement could reignite our taste buds for this particular meringue-based French cookie.
Ladurée, which has branches all over the world (the nearest in Taipei), was created in 1862. It was later, however, in the 1930s, when the bakery came to develop their most famous item. According to the Ladurée website, this was the time when Pierre Desfontaines, the grandson of founder Louis-Ernest Ladurée, first thought of taking two macaron shells and filling them with flavored ganache. The recipe has not been altered since.
Their famous macarons are a popular balikbayan gift from Filipinos who visit Hong Kong or Singapore. Some online vendors also sell Ladurée macarons for pre-order.
The local Ladurée will be opened by the Homme et Femme group. It will be in the Lopez Tower, Rockwell, Makati City. No specific date has been given as of press time.
