Here are the 50 Best Restaurants in Asia for 2016

Gallery Vask in BGC took the 39th spot on the list.

(SPOT.ph) For the second year in a row, Gaggan in Bangkok received top honors in the annual Asia’s 50 Best Restaurant list, sponsored by S. Pellegrino and Acqua Panna. The eponymous restaurant is known for its reimagined traditional Indian cuisine.

The ceremony was held in Bangkok on Monday, February 29, before an audience of esteemed members of the culinary sphere. William Drew, Group Editor of the celebrated list further shares, “Now on its fourth year, these awards reflect the growth and diversity of Asia’s dining scene.” According to Drew, the list also strives to reward creativity and culinary excellence.

Making it on the 39th spot is our very own Gallery Vask, found in Bonifacio Global City. Consequently, it earned the title of Best Restaurant in the Philippines. Art marries food in this intimate gallery dining room, which features "anthropological cuisine [or] modern cuisine using local ingredients and inspired by Philippine culture." The tandem between Filipino architect-artist Juan Carlo Calma and Spanish-born chef Chele Gonzalez has proven itself an effective collaboration.

The awarding ceremony also recognized other significant feats in the industry with awards like The Diners Club Lifetime Achievement Award (Chef David Thompson) and One to Watch Award (Florilege in Tokyo) among many others. One such distinction that put the Philippines in the limelight is the Asia’s Best Female Chef Award, which went to chef and restaurateur Margarita Fores. Her impressive portfolio includes terrific fares in Italian dining like Cibo, Lusso, and Alta, and another that champions homegrown ingredients in Grace Park.
