Â
(SPOT.ph) Back in July, we talked about how ube is slowly gaining recognition in the international food scene, thanks to places like Manila Social Club in Brooklyn and their Golden Cristal Ube Donut. But judging by a video uploaded by Thrillist on Tuesday, August 2, the spotlight seems to have shifted to their Ube Bae Donuts, which has been selling out like, well, hotcakes!
Â
Â
Manila Social Club's executive chef and co-owner Björn De La Cruz makes the donuts by hand, then hand-pipes and hand-dips each one, which is probably why he only makes them on Fridays. Thrillist mentions a few other U.S. restaurants that have also been using ube as a flavor for their dishes and desserts.

We always knew that this local flavor couldn't possibly stay under the radar for too long. Ube and its subtle sweetness is making a splash internationally, one dish at a time, and we (by we, we mean our stomachs) couldn't be any happier!
