(SPOT.ph) Thesis: the one word that every student dreads hearing and doing, simply because it takes so much work to research, revise, and defend. But to fourth-year entrepreneurship students Donna Amper, Kianna Orias, and Pauline Nicolas, it's more than just papers and library visits.
"Hippie Tipi is our thesis," says Donna. "We've always been friends and we're lucky enough to have been grouped together." They strategically came up with a system where Donna and Kianna handle the counter, while Pauline works her magic in the kitchen.
Juggling school and a business is no easy task, but the three breeze through it with grace. "Wala pa kaming tulog since we opened," Donna jokingly adds. "But it's worth it!"
Being young, they have the familiarity that comes with growing up in the age of social media, and they knew that the best way to get word around is through social media itself. "There has to be something different, something that would make people want to drive to Marikina," explains Donna. The idea of putting up string lights and adorable teepees came to them one night, and that was their take-off point, making Hippie Tipi a casual IG-worthy date place for friends or couples.
Cheesy Beef Pizza
Take caution with the Cheesy Beef Pizza (P189). It's topped with ground beef, grated parmesan, and mozzarella. When they say "thin crust," they mean thin crust. Before you know it, you're halfway through the entire pan.
The Cheesy Lasagna (P129) is a four-layered bubbling spectacle of melted cheese, cream, and tomato sauce. They don't scrimp on the beef or the cheese, and the parsley on top gives the dish an extra bite. Have on the side the Golden Mozzarella (P99), mozzarella sticks coated with seasoned homemade Italian breadcrumbs.
Don't skip the mocktails, particularly the best-selling Midnight Kick (P89). Not only is it totally double tap-worthy, but the fresh lychee and peach blend with white soda is the perfect sweet ending to cap off a hearty meal.
Graduation may still be a few months away, but with a venture that's already hip and happening, we'd award this trio all the flying colors they deserve.
