(SPOT.ph) At first glance, you’d think that this corner restaurant in Bonifacio Global City is just a bigger version of Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. But once you step inside and see the spacious dining area of 26th Street Bistro, you’d feel that it’s not quite like a typical branch of the popular coffee chain. It could even be a better version of it—especially if you take in the warm wooden furnishings with elegant room dividers and wall décor, along with a vertical garden to boot.

You’ll be surprised that the concept store of Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf (CBTL) has an extensive menu that offers more than just sandwiches, cakes, and all-day breakfast fare. They now have wine pairings, too.

Burrata, Fresh Tomatoes, and Basil

One of 26th Street Bistro’s new dishes is the Burrata, Fresh Tomatoes, and Basil (P395), beautifully presented on a rustic wooden chopping board. It’s a very interactive dish that requires you to eat with your hands—get a slice of the milky-soft cheese and top it on the crusty grilled sourdough. Don’t forget to add some fresh basil, sweet heirloom tomatoes, and candied walnuts for extra flavor and texture. According to Chef Luisa del Rosario, this filling starter perfectly complements the Beringer Main & Vine White Zinfandel 2016 (P295/glass, P1,050/bottle) because of the wine’s natural sweetness.

Prosciutto Pasta with Cream

If you’re a pasta aficionado, you’ll like the Prosciutto Pasta with Cream (P425) where delicate strands of spaghettini swim in a white sauce, then topped with a perfectly poached egg that gives the dish some much-needed richness. Meanwhile, the salty prosciutto morsels and peppery arugula cut through the sauce’s decadence. The Chateau Gantonnet Bordeaux Blanc 2016 (P1,650/bottle) is best matched with this dish, with pineapple and citrus notes to balance the creaminess of the pasta.

Grilled Teriyaki Salmon

Another dish that you can pair with the white wine is the Grilled Teriyaki Salmon (P565), where a sizeable slice of grilled fatty salmon fillet lays on a bed of forbidden rice (also known as black rice).

On the other hand, meat lovers will go crazy over Loco Moco (P425). Chef Luisa shares that this is a popular dish in Hawaii, and the restaurant’s version features a generous serving of char-grilled USDA burger steak. Finished off with caramelized onions, a sunny-side-up egg, and rum gravy, this amazing creation also sits on top of a huge mound of steamed rice and is plated with some grilled pineapple slices. The result is an elevated burger steak that can possibly put you in a food coma. With the meal’s predominantly bold and beefy flavors, fruity-spicy red wine like Beringer Main & Vine Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 (P250/glass, P950/bottle) is your best bet.

Steak in Marsala Sauce

But if you really want to get to the meat of the matter, treat your palate to some Steak in Marsala Sauce (P555). The glorious slab of USDA steak cooked medium rare (the only acceptable doneness to have it) is served with silky mashed potatoes, French beans, and a heavenly marsala sauce. Although this dish also pairs well with the previous vino, 26th Street Bistro has a lot of other red wine options to choose from, which the waiters would gladly help you with.

26th Street Bistro isn’t your ordinary CBTL. It isn’t just a place where you can do some work over coffee, or a weekend spot with friends over afternoon tea. It’s more than that—especially after knowing that you can extend your stay through a casual late-night dinner date over fine glasses of wine.

Wine pairings are also available at 26th Street Bistro, 5/F East Wing, Shangri-La Plaza, Mandaluyong City.
