(SPOT.ph) Since opening their doors in 2018, NoKal has been a favorite among Poblacion residents and visitors. They offered great burgers (such as their Cheeseburger, which was one of our favorites in Manila) and other Western comfort eats paired with a comfy, moody ambience that made it all too easy to feel at home and lounge around the restaurant with friends. But the pandemic has hit the local restaurant industry hard—and the burger joint has announced that it is closing its doors.
"It is with a heavy heart that we announce that we have decided to close our beloved establishment along Kalayaan [avenue] in Poblacion, Makati," NoKal writes in a social media post. "The current pandemic has taken a toll on our business and employees, and with our business as a bar still not being allowed to operate and our landlord still demanding full rent payments, we have no choice but to leave the current premises in which our lease is tied unto."

"We would like to thank everyone who's been supporting our home," the post reads. "NoKal is what it is because of the people that come and support it. Our success as a business in this industry is tied directly with the community that was built by our home."

Not all is lost, however. In the post, NoKal mentions that they are currently looking for possible new venues to move to once they are allowed to operate as a bar. "Rest assured that our home NoKal will live on and will defnitely make a comeback once the timing is right," NoKal relays. "For now, our spirit remains in Poblacion through our partners establishments, Kampai, The Spirits Library, and Ebi 10."
