This New Café's Got Great Coffee and Craft Beer in One #Aesthetic Spot

(SPOT.ph) There are two kinds of buzz that we crave. There's the signature jolt that you can get from caffeine, and then there's the happy-tipsy vibe that you can get from beer (both in moderation, of course!). The worlds of coffee and beer might not have much else in common, but one new spot in San Juan bridges the gap by offering great versions of each in an IG-worthy setting. Say hello to Granville, a new café that ticks all the right boxes: gorgeous interiors, excellent coffee and beer, and great eats to boot!

The café is owned by four business partners Josh, Gaea, Kar, and Norton—who prefer to be known only by their first names—a group of friends that likes to meet up over good food and coffee. "When the lockdown started we had all the time to brainstorm and plan a project we've been dreaming about for the past few years," Kar shares in an interview with SPOT.ph.
"The café design was made with love and attention to detail," says Kar. "We wanted to bring that experience of sitting in a nice cozy cafe in Australia or Canada to Manila amidst the hustle and bustle of the city—a nice place where someone could get away for a few hours." True enough, Granville's got a IG-worthy ambience that's at once laid-back but lively, with calming shades of brown and taupe on the walls brought to life by splashes of teal, blue, and green from the chairs and plants placed around the tables. You'll also notice the La Marzocco machine on the counter, as well as bottles of beer on the shelves behind it.
For their coffee, Granville uses 50% Attok Benguet and 50% Sultan Kudarat beans for their black cups of joe; and 60% Attok Benguet and 40% Malaybalay Bukidnon beans their milk-based drinks. There's something for everyone in their short-but-sweet coffee lineup, which includes the Long Black (P130), Caffè Latté (P155), Cortado (P145), and Mocha (P175).
As for beer, they've got a couple of local craft brews from Nipa Brew on tap—including the Tropic Haze Wheat Ale (P195) and Hop Flask IPA (P250)—as well as by the bottle, like the Take Me To Your Leader Scotch Heavy Ale (P215) and Release Me From Lockdown White IPA (P215). If you're open to expanding your horizons, you can also go for one of their imported Belgian beers, like the Lindemans Kriek (P215) and Westmalle Dubbel (P255).
Be sure to save room for their savory eats, crafted up by Gaea and their own Chef AJ, who trained at the famed French culinary school Le Cordon Bleu. You can go for starters like the Fattoush Salad (starts at P270), or sandwiches like the Chicken Melt in Flat Bread (P295). A standout section from their menu is their pasta; Granville serves pasta noodles made fresh every day, which you can enjoy in dishes like the Wild Mushroom Truffle Cream (starts at P320) with mushrooms, truffle, and cream, and Sea Urchin (starts at P355) with sea urchin, garlic, and butter. For a heavier meal, go for the carnivore-pleasing USDA Ribeye Steak (P650), or the light but satisfying Grilled Salmon with Mango Salsa (P535). And for dessert, you'll want to try the Affogato Soy Ice Cream (P190).
"Our passion to create quality and interesting dishes combined with everyday comfort food led us to create our menu," says Kar. "We believe that good quality food should be approachable and affordable. Healthy food should taste good."
