If 2020 is anything to go by, the Cebuanos' interest to cook glorious amounts of meats tableside are at an all time high, with several popular Manila franchises like Samgyupsalamat and Romantic Baboy even entering the scene to fill the gap. But before all of these, Cebu already has a roster of "unli samgyup" and even yakiniku joints. Please pass the crushed garlic, we're ready to dig in and grill some meat.

Tajimaya transports your palate to Tokyo’s narrow alleyways with their Japanese cuisine. At P650 per head, you can eat-all-you-can a selection of beef, pork, chicken, shrimp, sausages, fishballs, and chicken liver and gizzard. And, once cooked to your liking, don’t forget to dip them in Tajimaya’s fragrant sauces. Wakamatsu doesn’t serve just yakiniku; they craft an entire experience that wholly encapsulates the Japanese way of dining. From the entrance, the Japanese-style door reminiscent of shoji panels already gives you a glimpse of the restaurant’s traditional roots. The rustic interiors, the chabudai (lowered table), and wooden partitions also offer you and your foodie friends a layer of privacy—leaving all distractions as you spend some quality time with your love of the night: the Japanese grilled meats. With lunch and dinner rates at P600 and P690 respectively, you have plenty of eat-all-you-can options that offer you choices of marinated meats (the usual beef, pork, and chicken) to seafood (shrimp and scallops). Many have sung praises for this restaurant’s spicy kimchi as well, so be sure to leave some space in your stomach for that flavor bomb. For those in the south, you'd be glad to know that they have a branch located in Minglanilla. So if you’re looking for a nearby KBBQ place to satisfy your meat cravings, Migag’s door is there to welcome you with open arms.

Another affordable option for unli-meat dining is Barangay Seoul, with a lunch rate of P299 per head and a dinner promo of P349 per head. Don’t let the price fool you; the quality of the meat and side dishes is right up there. Aside from the usual suspects like samgyupsal, kimchi rice, and fish cake, this restaurant also has their own twist to Korean ramyun noodles to round off their menu—which you can season and boil as you please.

This list would be incomplete without the first samgyupsal restaurant in Cebu City. Even with their no-frills interiors, they still manage to attract a loyal following for their quality meats. The crowning jewel of this establishment is their bulgogi that no restaurant can imitate after all these years. After marinating it in a sweet-savory mixture of soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and sesame oil, the beef brisket’s lean and juicy texture hits you like an umami truck—rich, succulent, and flavorful. But bulgogi isn’t the only winning item here. You can pick from samgyupsal, low-fat moksal, hangeongsal, and shabu-shabu too. Pearl Meat Shop has a starting rate of P350 per head for unlimited pork, rice, samgyupsal, and moksal; and P450 for all of that plus unli beef short plate and chuck eye. Either option comes with free bottomless iced tea, too.
