(SPOT.ph) Just when you thought the Dubai chocolate trend had finally melted away, it’s still very much alive. If you haven't pieced it together by now, this SPOT.ph Taste Test is once again diving into a dessert decked out in the holy trinity of chocolate, pistachio, and kataifi.

The latest player? 7-Eleven. Yes, even your friendly neighborhood convenience store is hopping on the bandwagon with not one, but three new pastries: the Pistachio Brownie Bar, Pistachio Chocolate Croissant, and Pistachio Chocolate Eclair.

Spoiler alert: All three are worth a bite—but not all are created equal. One dessert is average, the other is better, and the other is the best among the rest. In this review, we’re zeroing in on exactly which one (and why) it deserves the spotlight.

7-Eleven joins the Dubai chocolate craze with three new desserts

7-Eleven churns out new ready-to-eat meals, new siopao and hotdog flavors, and new desserts almost every month—and most of the time, this depends on the season, the occasion, and, of course, what's breaking the internet. So yes, it does feel a little late for the convenience store to jump on the global Dubai chocolate-pistachio-kataifi trend, considering the trend’s been making the rounds for over a year now. But hey, maybe they were just letting it "marinate" for them to come up with the Pistachio Brownie Bar, Pistachio Chocolate Croissant, and the Pistachio Chocolate Eclair. Here's a rundown of what each dessert is:

Pistachio Brownie Bar (P99): Each pack comes with three bite-sized squares. It's a moist chocolate brownie base topped with a kataifi filling and chocolate ganache, and then sprinkled with crushed pistachio nuts.

Pistachio Chocolate Croissant (P89): A flaky crescent moon-shaped pastry that hides a sweet pistachio cream filling inside. This pastry is finished with a chocolate glaze and crushed pistachio nuts. It looks fancy, like something you'd typically see in a neighborhood coffee shop, and it accidentally ended up in a convenience store.

Pistachio Chocolate Eclair (P69): This is a Dubai twist on the French pastry. The choux shell is piped with pastel green-tinted pistachio cream, then topped with a chocolate glaze and—you guessed it—crushed pistachios.

I can't exactly see why they chose these three dessert formats for this lineup, but it works nonetheless... even for an indecisive person like me. There’s the brownie if you’re craving something dense and deeply chocolatey, a croissant if you want your dessert with a bit of flaky, buttery drama, and an éclair for those who prefer their sweets on the lighter side.

What do the 7-Eleven Pistachio Chocolate desserts taste like?

A few things stood out to me about 7-Eleven’s new pistachio-chocolate dessert lineup. First: they don’t skimp on the chocolate. All three—brownie, eclair, and croissant—use surprisingly good-quality chocolate, rich enough to feel indulgent but still in nostalgic territory. Second, the foundations are solid. The croissant is flaky, the eclair shell holds up, and a dense brownie—flavor and texture-wise, all three are a strong 10/10.

Third: the pistachio filling. Both the croissant and eclair share the same pastel green core, but here's the twist—it’s got a strong vanilla taste. Not necessarily a bad thing, but definitely unexpected if you’re chasing that deep, nutty pistachio flavor. To their credit, 7-Eleven does list vanilla in the ingredients (for those "rare Pokemons" who read the fine print). But still, if you’re imagining something earthy and pistachio-forward, just remember that this filling leans sweet and fragrant vanilla.

Fourth—and maybe the biggest surprise—they didn’t go all-in on the Dubai chocolate trend. Only the brownie includes all three signature elements: pistachio, chocolate, and the crunchy kataifi. The croissant and eclair skip the crispy texture entirely. A bit of a missed opportunity, sure, but possibly a practical one? Kataifi isn’t exactly the easiest thing to source, and adding it might’ve also nudged the price tag to something borderline not convenience-store friendly.

Now, I do like rules—and I do like following them, but I also like letting my intrusive thoughts win—or in this case, I'd like to reframe it as purely curious—win. So, when it came to seeing the “best eaten cold” label printed on all three desserts’ packaging? I had to question it for obvious reasons, i.e., croissants are almost always served warm. Naturally, I had to know if the claim was true. So I split each dessert in half, tried them warm and cold.

What I found out from this 'lil experiment is that if the Pistachio Brownie and the Pistachio Chocolate Croissant are recommended cold, then they are "best-est eaten warm." Sure, a few minutes in the toaster or the microwave will test your patience, as it did with mine, but you’ll be rewarded with the fudgiest brownie with a melted chocolate topping dripping on the sides. It’s basically begging to be topped with a scoop of vanilla (or pistachio) ice cream.

The croissant, once toasted, gives the flaky layers more crunch and a hypnotizing smell of butter wafting through the air. It's as if you're transported to a bakery! As for the eclair? Do not heat! That one truly is best served cold.

Which 7-Eleven Pistachio Chocolate dessert is good, better, and best?

The standout? Hands down, the Pistachio Chocolate Croissant is the best of the three, and the Pistachio Brownie Bar comes in at a close second. If you spot the croissant at your local 7-Eleven (rare, because it disappears fast), grab it. If you got a bit more moolah to spare, add the brownie to your loot. As for the Pistachio Chocolate Eclair—you’re not missing out on much if you skip it. But if you can spend P257 for your dessert, go ahead and complete 7-Eleven's pistachio-chocolate set.

Cue the "Honestly, I might as well get the whole set" audio!
