10 Love Lessons We’ve Learned From Taylor Swift
A few words of wisdom we've picked up.
(SPOT.ph) Girlfriend may get a bad rap for shamelessly using her past relationships as material for her money-making singles, but you have to admit, she's pretty good at what she does. And in celebration of her show in Manila on Friday, June 6, we decided to revisit her songs and list down some lessons in love we picked up from them.
Song: "Picture To Burn"
Love Lesson: Warn all the boys who plan to break your heart that your dad's got a shotgun.
Lyrics: "There’s no time for tears, I’m just sitting here / Planning my revenge / There’s nothing stopping me / From going out with all of your best friends / And if you come around saying sorry to me / My daddy’s gonna show you how sorry you’ll be..."
Song: "Speak Now"
Love Lesson: Beware of judgy friends whose eyes linger on your fiance a little longer than necessary. Better make sure your wedding ceremony goes uninterrupted by not inviting them.
Lyrics: "I hear the preacher say, ’Speak now or forever hold your peace,’ / There’s a silence, there’s my last chance, I stand up with shaking hands, All eyes on me, Horrified looks from everyone in the room, But I’m only lookin’ at you..."
Song: "Back To December"
Love Lesson: Saying sorry and reminiscing about good times will not bring him back.
Lyrics: "Maybe this is wishful thinking, probably mindless dreaming/ But if we loved again I swear I’d love you right. I’d go back in time and change it but I can’t/ So if the chain is on your door, I understand."
Song: "Begin Again"
Love Lesson: If an ex didn't like some parts of you, that means he’s a douche. Okay, kidding. We meant to say, just because an ex didn’t like some parts of you doesn't mean another guy won't love you for who you are. Never mind the double negative.
Lyrics: "And you throw your head back laughing like a little kid / I think it’s strange that you think I’m funny ’cause he never did / I’ve been spending the last eight months / Thinking all love ever does is break and burn and end / But on a Wednesday in a cafe I watched it begin again..."
Song: "I Knew You Were Trouble"
Love Lesson: Bad guys will never be good for you. But sometimes they’re fun to date anyway.
Lyrics: "’Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in / So shame on me now / Flew me to places I’d never been / So you put me down oh / I knew you were trouble when you walked in / So shame on me now / Flew me to places I’d never been / Now I’m lying on the cold hard ground / Oh, oh, trouble, trouble, trouble / Oh, oh, trouble, trouble, trouble..."
Song: "The Last Time"
Love Lesson: Don't be the one that gets left behind.
Lyrics: "You find yourself at my door, Just like all those times before, You wear your best apology, But I was there to watch you leave, And all the times I let you in, Just for you to go again, Disappear when you come back, Everything is better."
Love Lesson: Love isn't all about the good times.
Lyrics: "And I remember that fight, two-thirty a.m. ’Cause everything was slipping right out of our hands / I ran out, crying, and you followed me out into the street / Braced myself for the goodbye, ’Cause that’s all I’ve ever known / Then, you took me by surprise / You said, "I’ll never leave you alone..."
Song: "You Belong With Me"
Love Lesson: Be careful of love that's obsessive. (Read: psycho!)
Lyrics: "And you’ve got a smile that could light up this whole town/ I haven’t seen it in a while since she brought you down / You say you're fine / I know you better than that / Hey what you doing with a girl like that..."
Love Lesson: Love can get pretty intense.
Lyrics: "Losing him was blue like I’d never known / Missing him was dark gray all alone / Forgetting him was like trying to know somebody you never met / But loving him was red / Oh red / Burning red..."
Song: "Our Song"
Love Lesson: Every love story needs a song. Taylor Swift should know.
Lyrics: "Our song is a slamming screen door / Sneakin’ out late, tapping on your window / When we’re on the phone, and you talk real slow / ’Cause it’s late and your mama don’t know / Our song is the way you laugh, on the first date / Man, I didn’t kiss her, and I should have / And when I got home, before I said amen / Asking God if he could play it again..."
