Piolo Pascual, John Lloyd Cruz film joins Berlin International Film Festival
The Lav Diaz film is up against 14 other movies from around the world
(SPOT.ph) Here's some good news for movie fans! The highly anticipated onscreen team-up of Piolo Pascual and John Lloyd Cruz is headed to the prestigious 2016 Berlin International Film Festival.
Directed by Lav Diaz, Hele Sa Hiwagang Hapis (international title: A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery) is part of Berlinale's main Competition category alongside 14 other entries from around the world. These films will compete for several prizes, including the Golden Bear—the highest prize awarded to the best film in the festival.
Plot details are still scarce but we know that Cruz is playing El Filibusterismo's Isagani, while Pascual will be Simon. Sid Lucero is also confirmed to play Noli Me Tangere's Basilio. Other stars include Alessandra de Rossi, Angel Aquino, Cherie Gil, and Bernardo Bernardo. In an earlier interview, Pascual confirmed that the movie will be rendered in black-and-white, with a five-hour running time.
Academy Award winner Meryl Streep will serve as the jury president of the 66th Berlinale, slated to run from February 11 to 21.
