Local cinemas to exclusively screen Filipino movies nationwide this August

(SPOT.ph) Who says you only have to celebrate Buwan ng Wika when you're a student? If you're a movie fan, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) is giving you a chance to celebrate August in a different way.

From August 16 to 22, local cinemas nationwide will be playing host to Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino as over 700 screens will be exclusively screening Filipino films. According to FDCP Chair Liza Diño-Seguerra, the event is in partnership with SM Lifestyle Entertainment and the National Cinema Association of the Philippines.

A list of movies to be screened has yet to be announced, but the FDCP says the event is open to submissions on or before June 15 and 10 to 12 films will be selected for screening. The genres range from romantic to family-oriented, horror, comedy, and even historical.

In the meantime, you can check out the FDCP's other cinematic venture: Cine Lokal, which screens indie films every week for P120 at selected SM Cinemas nationwide.
