The SPOT.ph Guide to Cinema One Originals 2017

You'll have plenty to watch this November.


 

(SPOT.ph) Once again, Cinema One features the works of independent filmmakers in their annual Cinema One Originals film festival. Now on its 13th run, this year's theme is Walang Takot which stays true to the way the filmmakers are embracing new styles and ways of storytelling.

 

This year, there will be seven narrative films, two feature films, 13 foreign films, two documentaries, and several restored classics. You can watch the films and documentaries at Trinoma, Glorietta, Gateway, UP Cine Adarna, Cinema '76, and Cinematheque from November 13 to 21, with an extended run from November 22 to 28 at the Power Plant Mall.

Nay

The film tells the story of Martin (Enchong Dee), a rich, sheltered youth who gets transformed into an aswang by his yaya, Nay Luisa (Sylvia Sanchez). She teaches him how to hunt down the poor and the weak for food.

An adaptation of a musical play by Vincent de Jesus, Changing Partners is the story of Alex (Agot Isidro, Jojit Lorenzo) and Cris (Anna Luna, Sandino Martin), a Gen X-er and millennial. What’s interesting about the story is that throughout the film, the gender of Alex and Cris change to tell the story from a different point of view.

This four-part film tells history in another way, twisting well-known characters and giving new life to them. You will find a disillusioned and suicidal Rizal (Joem Bascon), a cross-dressing Bonifacio, an ex-Katipunero (Alex Medina) who joins the U.S. army to save his own neck, and a widow (Nathalie Hart) whose sex-for-food lifestyle leads her to become the first ever Makapili.
