Mark Your Calendars: Cinemalaya 2018 Is Happening This August
Everyone's favorite indie film festival is back!
(SPOT.ph) Every year, cinephiles are treated to great indie movies from Philippine cinema. There have been a couple that already came out this year—like a veteran's comeback film to an hours-long rock opera. And there also a lot more worth looking forward to—like an action-packed thriller and a highly anticipated sequel. Now, movie buffs will be treated to more indie films with the 2018 Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival—or simply Cinemalaya—that's happening from August 8 to 12. This year, there'll be screenings at CCP Theaters and at select Ayala Malls Cinemas.
The annual film festival, which was first held in 2005, aims to promote Philippine independent cinema by providing grants to 10 filmmakers for the full-length features, and showcasing short films during the course of the festival. Some of the films that have won awards at Cinemalaya include Marlon Rivera's Ang Babae sa Septic Tank, Hannah Espia's Transit, Jerrold Tarog's Sana Dati, Eduardo Roy Jr.'s Pamilya Ordinaryo, and Treb Monteras II's Respeto.
