10 Must-See Movies This September

The Goldfinch, Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino films, and more!

(SPOT.ph) Brace yourselves for Christmas lights, Jose Mari Chan memes, holiday traffic, and of course, a new set of movies to watch this month! This September marks another year for Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino, which showcases new Filipino films screening nationwide in cinemas, as well as some horror and drama from Hollywood.

Here are some of the must-see films to catch this September:

It Chapter 2

Release date: September 4
Get ready to sleep with the lights on (or, you know, avoid clowns for a long, long time) as the sequel to the hit 2017 horror finally arrives to cinemas! Set 27 years after the defeat of Pennywise (Bill Skarsgard), the much-older members of the Losers Club have gone their separate ways. When kids in their town of Derry start disappearing again, the adults return to their hometown and must find a way to conquer their trauma and deepest fears to destroy It once and for all. The kids of the first film reprise their roles, now with Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Hader, James Ransone, Jay Ryan, Isaiah Mustafa, and Andy Bean taking on the adult versions of the Losers Club.

Polaroid

Release date: September 4
This teen horror centers on Bird (Kathryn Prescott), a shy high school student who stumbles upon an old Polaroid camera. She soon realizes that those who get their picture taken by it meet a gruesome and untimely death, and she must find a way to save her friends whose photographs have been taken.

LSS (Last Song Syndrome)

Release date: September 13
Real-life couple Gabbi Garcia and Khalil Ramos share the screen together for the first time in this entry to this year's Pista Ng Pelikulang Pilipino (PPP). The music-themed film follows two best friends, Sarah (Garcia) and Zak (Ramos), who stumble upon almost-romantic situations as they follow an up-and-coming indie-folk band played by Ben&Ben.

Lola Igna

Release date: September 13
Lola Igna is a foul-mouthed and stubborn woman who is eager to die but her neighbors are determined that she wins the title “the oldest living grandmother in the world.” Things get interesting when her estranged great-great-grandson, Tim, shows up on her doorstep in a bit to latch on to her fame.

Cuddle Weather

Release date: September 13
This PPP entry features Sue Ramirez as an experienced prostitute named Adela, whose paths cross with Ram (RK Bagatsing), a newbie call boy when they both hear each other having loud sex in adjacent motel rooms. Adela decides to take him under her wing and teach him everything she knows, but things get complicated when one of them starts wanting more.

Release date: September 13
JC Santos and Arci Muñoz play Ethan and Rome, respectively, a couple who have been together for a whopping 14 years. When they begin to feel that their romance has become stale and boring, they decide to explore being in an open relationship. This Andoy Ranay-film is also an entry to this year's Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.

The Goldfinch

Release date: September 18
Based on the 2013 best-selling novel of the same name, the onscreen adaptation stars Ansel Elgort as Theo Decker, a young man whose life completely changes after his mother was killed in a bombing in the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Through it all, he holds on to one tangible piece of hope from that tragic day, a painting of a tiny bird chained to its perch.

Ad Astra

Release date: September 20
In this paranoid thriller, Brad Pitt stars as Roy McBride, an astronaut on a doomed mission across the unforgiving galaxy as he searches for the truth behind his father’s disappearance. The film recently held its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival, where it widely received positive reviews from critics and Pitt garnering praise for his performance.

#Jowable

Release date: September 25
Kim Molina plays Elsa, a girl who's desperate to find a boyfriend that will end her single days for good. Despite her appeal, she hasn't met anyone yet and is frustrated at her lack of a love life. Directed by Darryl Yap, this film is based on the VinCentiments short video series on Facebook.
