Here are the dance bops worth listening to for the first month of 2020:
“Future Nostalgia”
Artist: Dua Lipa
Pop music fave Dua Lipa is out with “Future Nostalgia,” a fun, funky, and catchy ditty about being a female alpha. The track is a strong follow-up to her smash hit “Don’t Start Now.” It combines a notable disco influence that ticks the ‘nostalgia’ component with an enjoyable electro touch that adds the ‘future’ element.
Fun fact: “Future Nostalgia” is the title track of Lipa’s forthcoming sophomore album.
“Alab”
Artist: SB19
The boys of SB19 are back with another dance-floor anthem. “Alab,” which follows their well-received single “Go Up,” is an absolute bop, thanks to its K-Pop inspired beats, Taglish verses, and playful vocals. The song is all about that burning desire we feel whenever we’re in love.
Fun fact: “Alab” is the group’s first official single under their new label, Sony Music Philippines.
“Adore You”
Artist: Harry Styles
Don’t you just adore Harry Styles for consistently blessing us with irresistibly sexy singles? “Adore You” is a romantic midtempo track that won’t just make you sway to the music; you’ll also want to croon à la Styles. The recently released music video is a whole other fantastical experience, too.
Fun fact: This is the third single off Styles' second solo album, Fine Line, which was released on December 13, 2019—the birthday of Taylor Swift, who happens to be one of his exes
“DKSPY” Brian Cua Future Remix
Artists: Zion Aquino with remix by Brian Cua
Singer-songwriter Zion Aquino recently released his latest EP titled Bagong Yugto. One of the tracks, “DKSPY,” has been remixed and turned into a total club banger by DJ Brian Cua. Aquino’s soulful vocals still stand out in the high-energy and synth-heavy version.
Fun fact: Aquino’s EP also features collaborations with Meleena, Quest, KZ Tandingan, and Bayang Barrios.
“Put It All On Me”
Artists: Ed Sheeran feat. Ella Mai
Ed Sheeran teamed up with fellow English singer-songwriter Ella Mai to give life to this feel-good love song. It'll be hard to get the radio-friendly, falsetto-sung chorus out of your head. “Put It All On Me” is simply an endearing tune that will get you in the mood for love and dancing.
Fun fact: Sheeran and his wife, Cherry Seaborn, are among the couples shown dancing and having fun in the music video for the song.
“Hide My Love”
Artist: Kiana Valenciano
Kiana Valenciano’s latest song follows her first full-length album, See Me, and caps off her stellar 2019. "Hide My Love” may be a slow jam, but that doesn’t mean it can’t get you up on your feet. It's an R&B delight complete with soothing vocals and an overall chill vibe.
Fun fact: The song was produced under Tarsier Records, a sub-label of ABS-CBN's Star Music, and was recorded in Los Angeles.
“My Oh My”
Artists: Camila Cabello feat. DaBaby
Cuban-American singer-songwriter Camilla Cabello is out with another saucy single. “My Oh My” features American rapper DaBaby and is considered to be one of the stronger singles from her latest album. It might remind you of her earlier hit “Havana” because of the infectious chorus and thumping bassline.
Fun fact: “My Oh My” is off Cabello’s recently released second studio album, Romance.
“Kumander”
Artist: Mayonnaise
We can’t put together a list of songs to dance to this new year without adding one of our most beloved bands. Mayonnaise has been known to release the most endearing love songs, and this one is no exception. “Kumander” blends quirky lyrics and the band’s signature fun-loving sound.
Fun fact: The song was a product of the impromptu composition challenge called On-the-Spot Songwriting with Jungee Marcelo.
“Family”
Artists: The Chainsmokers and Kygo
Electro-pop duo The Chainsmokers and Kygo collaborate to deliver “Family,” a touching electro-pop number about the joys of having a family—whether it’s the one you’re born into or the one you choose. Here, the poignant verses are tempered by the undeniably danceable chorus.
Fun fact: The music video for “Family” is a tribute to the artists’ friend and professional videographer Rory Kramer. It tells his uplifting story of survival after suffering a nearly fatal car crash and battling some mental health issues.
“T O X I C!!!”
Artist: Gab G
Say bye to toxicity and hello to only good vibes this 2020. Manila-based artist Gab G’s “T O X I C!!!” is a timely reminder to just do you and focus on the good. This chill number features inspiring rap verses against a lush hip-hop and electronic arrangement.
