“Cry Cry Cry”
Off the British band’s eighth studio album titled Everyday Life, “Cry Cry Cry” is a tender, romantic, and nostalgic doo-wop number meant to put you in a loving mood. Chris Martin’s singing sounds soothing as always and complements the piano-dominant arrangement.
Fun fact: Actress Dakota Johnson co-directed the music video for this song.
“Hanggang Kailan Kita Mahihintay”
Artist: Ebe Dancel
OPM heavyweight Ebe Dancel marks his return to PolyEast Records with the release of his new single, “Hanggang Kailan Kita Mahihintay.” The poignant love song sees Dancel crooning about the sacrifices we’re willing to make as we wait for the ones we love. The question he poses though: How long?
Fun fact: The track was originally written by Dancel for Paolo Valenciano in 2014. The former’s version was produced by Chino David of Hale.
“To Die For”
Artist: Sam Smith
English singer-songwriter Sam Smith longs for love and “somebody to die for” in his latest release. His vocals are subdued and breathy here but not in any way weak. “To Die For,” in its simplicity, is one powerful anthem about loneliness.
Fun fact: For this song, Smith sampled audio from the cult classic film Donnie Darko starring Jake Gyllenhaal.
Artists: Leila Alcasid and Curtismith
"Time” perfectly captures the super chill vibe of these two young artists. Leila Alcasid and her boyfriend Curtismith have finally released a collab. This smooth and fresh tune is the perfect weekend unwinding companion—along with your S.O.
Fun fact: The two confirmed their relationship in 2019.
Lauv’s latest offering is an introspective and important tune to listen to. “Modern Loneliness,” which starts as a stripped-down piano ballad and then blossoms into a lavish chorus, describes how we live today: never alone yet always lonely. It’s a call to reach out to one another and spread love.
Fun fact: Lauv describes the song as the most important one he’s made so far.
Sabu’s worship track, “New Season,” is an inspirational and uplifting creation meant to share light and love with everyone. Whatever your faith may be, let her encouraging words and feel-good melodies brighten your day and soothe your weary heart.
Fun fact: The young talent, who grew up in a Christian community, aims to share her faith and go back to her roots with this track.
Artist: Gracie Abrams
Brace yourself for another stellar pop newcomer. Gracie Abrams recently released, “21,” a catchy and honest track that’s nothing short of fantastic. Her delicate sound and emotional depth will make you feel things right at first listen.
Fun fact: She is the daughter of famous filmmaker J.J. Abrams.
Artist: Tandems '91
Local dance-electronic act Tandems '91 welcomed 2020 with this addictive single. “Sooner or Later” delivers the same nostalgic vibe and danceable melodies the trio is known for. It’s about those moments when you realize you really should have known better and trusted your gut.
Fun fact: The track is their follow-up to 2019's “Ready” and “Twenty Something.”
Artist: The Weeknd
Canadian artist The Weeknd is out with “After Hours,” a rich and hypnotic club banger about longing and regret. His signature vocals add some softness to the pulsating beats and overall darkness of the song. It’s tough to get this one out of your head.
Fun fact: This is the first promotional single from his fourth studio album of the same title.
Artists: Kiana Valenciano and Billy Davis
For “No Rush,” Kiana Valenciano enlisted the help of Filipino-Australian R&B/hip-hop artist and producer Billy Davis. Heed her advice and don’t rush into things; just enjoy the sleek beats and funky rhythms in this sparkling new gem.
Fun fact: This is Valenciano’s first collaboration with an international artist.
