LOOK: John Lloyd Cruz chats with Meryl Streep at Berlin Film Festival

She gamely took photos with the rest of the cast and crew of Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis.

(SPOT.ph) Director Lav Diaz won big at the prestigious Berlin Film Festival, as his eight-hour historical epic, Hele sa Hiwagang Hapis, took home the Silver Bear Alfred Bauer Prize on Sunday, February 21. The award recognizes films that open "new perspectives on cinematic art."

Inquirer Entertainment posted photos of the cast rubbing elbows with Oscar winner and Berlinale's jury president, Meryl Streep, as well as jury member Clive Owen. The photos were taken during the awarding ceremony.

Film director Paul Soriano (who produced Hele) was also at the ceremony. His wife, Toni Gonzaga, took to her Instagram account to excitedly post photos of him during the event. In one post, she shared how Meryl had asked him, "Who in [their] right mind [would] produce an eight-hour flim?"

The black-and-white Hele re-imagines the story of the 1896 Philippine Revolution. The film stars John Lloyd Cruz, Piolo Pascual, Cherie Gil, Alessandra de Rossi, Angel Aquino, Bernardo Bernardo, and more.
