Quit Bitchin' and Start Helpin'! Sign up here to volunteer for the DSWD

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) needs your help, says RockEd Philippines, which has posted a Sign-Up Sheet for DSWD Volunteers online. (For other ways to help, click here.)

Volunteer shifts are needed at the DSWD Warehouse on Chapel Road in Pasay City. Rock Ed is trying their best to coordinate transportation, and have provided pick-up points for volunteers in Makati, Ortigas and Manila. Transportation is available leaving DSWD to the nearest LRT/MRT/Bus stations every 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. For those who want to volunteer on weekends, contact DSWD directly through Ms. Francia Fabian (852-8081) or Mr. Ronald Reonal (851-2801 or 0918-9302356). Here's the map to the DSWD Warehouse.

In RockEd founder Gang Badoy's blog she writes that on October 23, around 9:30 p.m., Secretary Esperanza Cabral of the DSWD called her. "Sec. Cabral and I talked and she mentioned that the DSWD is open 24 hours for workshifts so she agreed for us (private citizens via our NGO: Rock Ed Philippines) to try to come up with a shift-coordination-list of, at least, 50 volunteers per day - for Monday to Friday - 3pm-11pm."
