Comedian Palito, 76, has his last laugh
Citing information culled from dzXL radio, GMANews.TV reports that Reynaldo Hipolito, 76, more popularly known in the Philippine entertainment industry as "Palito" (matchstick in Spanish), died at around 7 a.m. today. GMANews.TV also confirmed this with Philippine General Hospital spokesman Dr. Michael Tee.
According to the report, the veteran comedian died from a lung condition.
In a 2007 PEP article, it was revealed that Palito left Arellano University at age 21 in order to pursue acting. At first he provided support to big name comedians like Dolphy, as well as Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto, and Joey de Leon. Then, he starred in countless films in the 80s and 90s, including parodies of Sylvester Stallone like Rambuto (spoofing Rambo) and No Blood (spoofing First Blood). It was Palito who thought of these titles.
