Noynoy Aquino considers appointing Boy Abunda in his government; Abunda declines
President-apparent Noynoy Aquino is considering TV host Boy Abunda, known friend of his celebrity sister Kris, for a cabinet secretary post or a lower government position, reports GMANews.tv. "Think about it from a marketing perspective, things that you would want to market the Philippines for. He will be a good communicator."
"Totoong kausap yan. Walang agenda other than what he will publicly say. Tapos pwedeng pagkatiwalaan ng buo," Aquino added, as reported by Inquirer.net. He pointed out that Abunda is a graduate of the Ateneo de Manila University and has a degree in international relations as well.
However, Abunda told TV Patrol World he is "inclined not to accept it." He said, "It because it would mean I would leave all my shows... I am not ready to do that. I can help Noy in another capacity. I have a personal relationship with Noy. I think it will be more effective if I continue what I am doing now... giving him advice devoid of agenda and bias, devoid of politics.
Aquino earlier identified a possible problem: Abunda's compensation. "How much does Boy Abunda earn in a week? How much will his salary be in a year in government?" He added that Abunda would have to divest some of his properties should he accept the position, according to GMANews.tv.
Dubbed as "The King of Talk," Abunda co-hosts daily showbiz show SNN and weekly showbiz talk show The Buzz. He also owns a talent management firm, Backroom Inc., which handles the likes of Gretchen Barreto, Rufa Mae Quinto and Bianca Gonzales.
