Usher might just compose a song for Pinoy fans, promises his own Thrilla in Manila
"R&B King" Usher told Pia Guanio of 24 Oras he might just compose and sing a song for his Pinoy fans for his concert tonight, July 9, at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds. "It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience only for that audience."
Usher, who is in the Philippines for the first time, said, "I’ll try to beat Thrilla in Manila (laughs)... [But] it’s a short trip--only two days--so it’ll be a quick Thrilla in Manila."
Hailed as the heir apparent to the late pop music legend Michael Jackson by MSNBC, among other publications, Usher said, "Being compared to a legend like Michael Jackson is obviously a compliment. It took 50 years to build his career and I’m almost on my 20th year. So to have that type of comparison at this mark is really great...I look to build the same type of legacy through entertainment, culture, music, fashion, lifestyle and dance."
He said he might "send word" to his 16-year-old protege, Justin Bieber, to come to Manila as well. "[I saw] raw talent [in him]. Fortunately, it turned out really great... We want to build a legacy, a career to last forever."
