Police VIP treatment on Skyway caught on video
Two Highway Patrol officers were caught on camera stopping traffic along the Skyway in Bicutan to let a VIP convoy through, as seen in a video submitted by a "Bayan Patroller" citizen journalist to TV Patrol.
Land and Transportation Office Chief Virginia Torres told TV Patrol that what the officers did is illegal. She ordered an investigation to find out who the two officers are.
Another video sent by the same Bayan Patroller showed a VIP convoy with a VIPU (Vital Installation Protection Unit) of the Public Security and Protection Office of the National Police marking on one of the vehicles used.
The citizen journalist wanted to know if VIP treatment was still permitted. Police Chief Superintendent Lina Sarmiento cleared the convoy, telling TV Patrol it was Chief Justice Renato Corona who requested it for an official function. Members of the Supreme Court, Senate, Commission on Elections and the House of Representatives are allowed to use vehicles with VIPU markings for work purposes, according to Sarmiento.
